Stalk’s Videogame Corner: Strange Brigade

Game: Strange Brigade
Developer: Rebellion Developments
Genre: Co-Op Third-Person-Shooter
Releases: 2018 (Playstation 4, Windows, Xbox One), 2021 (Nintendo Switch)
Stalk’s Rating: 4/10

The multiplayer Wednesdays, as I have surely mentioned before, always ask for an open eye on the market to see what we as a four-player group could actually play next. Sometimes the choice is simple and we go for something that just released. Other times, there is a real struggle finding the next title to give a go since we cannot agree on what to play. And then, there is always happenstance: “Strange Brigade”, a four-player capable Third-Person-Shooter, just happened to appear out of nowhere on the Steam shop front. The kicker? A 90%-off sticker, which meant that the game only set us back 2.50€ each. One of us bought it for the low-price, the others saw it and joined in because the financial commitment was that low. And then, one fateful evening, “Strange Brigade” was not only in all of our Steam libraries but installed and ready to go; and here is how that went:

Budget Deckbuilding: Fun with Fungus

As the last deck from Time Spiral, I left a real treat: “Fun with Fungus”, a Black-Green deck working with the Fungus/Saproling combo of tribals. Fungi is a tribal I am very familiar with since I played a Black-Green Fungus deck for years. I mean, I played it enough to earn the title of mushroom man, which was not because I consumed or smoked any, but rather because I played them as my go-to deck. I tried a lot of builds over the years, so it is kinda nice to get to talk about the deck that started it all.

Stalk’s Videogame Corner: Far Cry 2

Game: Far Cry 2
Developer: Ubisoft
Genre: First-Person-Shooter
Releases: 2008 (Playstation 3, Windows, Xbox 360)
Stalk’s Rating: 4/10

My journey into the “Far Cry” franchise here on this blog started in July 2023 when I wrote a review for “Far Cry 3”, a game that I very much enjoyed playing. With both “Far Cry 4” and “Far Cry 5” also already being reviewed, it was time to think about taking a look back rather than jumping ahead and simply playing the sixth installment of the franchise. So, I chose to take a trip to Africa in form of “Far Cry 2”, a game that, at that time, still tinkered with what I refer to as the Ubisoft formula for open world games. I have seen gameplay of it back in the day and remember liking the idea of using a flamethrower as a crowd control option since the dry African grasslands are covered in easily flammable plant matter, but that is hardly enough knowledge about a game to form an opinion. Well, at the time of writing this sentence I have had my fair share of “Far Cry 2” and I am more than willing to share my opinion about the game.

Budget Deckbuilding: Reality Fracture

And here is yet another Time Spiral deck that I actually owned back in the day: “Reality Fracture” is a Blue-Red deck that makes use of one of the key mechanics from the Time Spiral block because the deck works with Suspend. Suspend is a keyword I absolutely love, because the idea of paying with your in-game time instead of using mana seems like an interesting angle to take. You also regularly manage to catch people off-guard with whatever it is you bring into the game via Suspend, despite the fact that you need to track the number of turns until the arrival of the card by removing time counters from it. But while the color combination is probably the best you can start with when making the most out of Suspend, the question still is whether “Reality Fracture” would be a good starting point to build a deck out of; and I will try to give the answer to that question in the following article.

Stalk’s Videogame Corner: Afterimage

Game: Afterimage
Developer: Aurogon Shanghai
Genre: Metroidvania
Releases: 2023 (Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Windows, Xbox One, Xbox X/S)
Stalk’s Rating: 4/10

Another month has passed, so it is time for some more humble bundling in form of Humble Choice March 2024. Now, I went on record saying that the last months were quite honestly terrible. I am not even that picky when it comes to games, but when I say that the last great Humble Choice was back in August where we had “Disco Elysium” as the headliner and next best one was October, which I condemned for being a horror game bundle that fortunately had “Metal: Hellsinger” in it, … well, I can only sigh at the sight in front of me. In fact, Humble Choice March 2024 might be a new low due to the fact that not only I found hardly any interest in reviewing the games, but pretty much every other Blaugustian taking part in the writing either said that the bundle was lackluster or paused for this month. To give you an idea what I am talking about, here is the list of Humble Choice March 2024:

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin: Not covered.
Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition: Not covered.
Saints Row: Krikket from NerdGirlThoughts
Citizen Sleeper: Not covered.
Black Skylands: UnwiseOwl from Leaflocker
Soulstice: Not covered.
Afterimage: The very article you are reading right now.
Destroyer The U-Boat Hunter: Not covered.

Trust me, when I think back a year and remember having a pretty good time with “Biomutant”, I did not expect this subscription service to drop to the point where I do not want to continue paying because I only get eight games I could not care about any less. Which, I guess, brings us to the game I review this time around: “Afterimage”. As is so often the case, I have no idea what “Afterimage” is before I picked it up, so let’s look at the game in question together.

Budget Deckbuilding: Sliver Evolution

For today’s article, we talk about the alpha-tribal deck in Magic the Gathering: Slivers. Lots of snake-like creatures serving a hivemind and providing their own abilities to the entire swarm make for a nightmarish combination to play against seeing how even an early-game board is just a ticking time bomb. Slivers are also a theme that has been used multiple time to make Preconstructed Decks, with Tempest‘s “The Slivers” already available as an article on Cubic Creativity, while “Sliver Shivers” from Legions will eventually join the ranks of my deck reviews. For today, Time Spiral gave us “Sliver Evolution”, a White-Red-Green Sliver deck that is just by color combination alone more of an Aggro deck than a Control one. Doesn’t matter though, since Slivers can do them all as you will see over the course of this article.

Stalk’s Videogame Corner: Handyman Legend

Game: Handyman Legend
Developer: SupaShinKen Studio
Genre: Erotica, Simulation
Releases: 2023 (Windows)
Stalk’s Rating: 6/10

The dude was a playboy when he was young, while after losing his job in big company, he become a handyman who take cases from smartphone app. Even though the money is short, but he somehow discovers a new paradise…

With store descriptions like that, you often do not need to care about whether your game is good or not, since many players will just leave before it comes to that point. However, despite the translation being rather shoddy, “Handyman Legend” is a solid little hentai game if you want to pass some time; and to be fair, the art style in the header picture saves a lot if you ask me. So, despite some problems linguistically, let us see what makes this handyman so legendary.
