Stalk’s Videogame Corner: The Witcher

Game: The Witcher
Developer: CD Project Red
Genre: Action Role-Playing Game
Releases: 2007 (Windows)
Stalk’s Rating: 4/10

I surely mentioned sometime before that I often feel obliged to give every entry in a series a go. For me it seems natural to try out the first entry of a game series even if I only played one of the later entries. There are various reasons to do so: You get a better picture of the development of the game series. You might be surprised by “reverse easter eggs” of sorts since you will meet characters, places, and items that have relevance in later titles. Or those games are simply solid gaming experiences of their own, despite their age. I applied the same logic to “The Witcher”, the first entry of the series. Sure, I played “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” before even thinking about going back to the roots, but I feel confident that I can go into the game unbiased regardless of what graphical standards were possible in the third installment.

Budget Deckbuilding: Spirit Flames

With both “Critical Mass” and “Soratami’s Wisdom” using lots of cards in your hand to gain advantages (or at least trying to gain them), it was about time that WotC decided to make something other than deck that simply stockpile cardboard in your hands. But, of course, they had to do another Spirit deck, the only giant tribal that they really do not care about anymore unless it is White and/or Blue. You can already assume what that means for the Red-Green “Spirit Flames” Preconstructed Deck, but of course we are take a look at the entire affair anyway. Here is the list:

Archetype Analysis: Banquet of Millions Burn

Last updated: 23.04.2022

Do you hate using your Extra Deck? Do like (semi-)FTKs using gimmicky card options instead? Well, here is something you can tinker with: “Master Duel”, the Yugioh online game that everyone and their mother played at release and that is now criticized for slow updates and a stale meta, brought up a very different sort of flower. It’s name is “Banquet Burn”, and since it uses a card in order to make a unique deck, I might aswell feature it as part of a decktype analysis; and this is exactly what I will do in this article.

Budget Deckbuilding: Soratami’s Wisdom

Moving on with the Saviors of Kamigawa Preconstructed Decks, we have another theme that likes to have lots of cards in hand. However, unlike last time with “Critical Mass”, this time I do have more hope for the strategy, since “Soratami’s Wisdom” features the colors White and Blue and therefore has a solid foundation of card draw to work with. Sixty cards, coming right up:

Stalk’s Videogame Corner: Duel Princess

Game: Duel Princess
Developer: Qureate
Genre: Tower Defense, Card Game
Releases: 2022 (Nintendo Switch, Windows)
Stalk’s Rating: 7/10

I have not talked about a videogame featuring playing cards for quite a while, haven’t I? Well, time to change that; and in what better way to do that than talking about the fanservice-ladened videogame genre-mix that is “Duel Princess”? The quality of the artwork combined with the fact that there are cards and deck building being used as one of the major gameplay elements caught my attention, but I would be lying if I said that I had any idea of what to expect from the title. But sometimes you can be positively surprised by games that you go in completely blind, so I sat down, invested a few hours into the title, and can now give you an idea of what to expect from “Duel Princess” after fully completing the game.

Budget Deckbuilding: Critical Mass

If you thought that Champions of Kamigawa and Betrayers of Kamigawa had some fairly whack Preconstructed Decks, well you have seen nothing yet. Saviors of Kamigawa has some really cool cards with lots of potential, but with the fact that cards from the set work with great handsizes and keywords like “Sweep”, one can ask what WotC was thinking back then. You will soon see why I refer to those two mechanics specifically, because the “Critical Mass” deck ahead of us has an … interesting idea of how deckbuilding should look like. Here is the list:

Archetype Analysis: Amorphage

Last updated: 26.07.2026

Amorphage Wrath” melting in the artwork of “Amorphage Lysis“. Yeah, there are no charming pictures in the “Amorphage” archetype.

Welcome back to yet another Archetype Analysis. This time, we are going to look at a deck that regularly crops up in discussions asking for the weakest archetypes in Yugioh while also being featured in articles calling them “The Ultimate Anti-Deck”: “Amorphage”. In fact, “Amorphage” does not only seem to create polarizing opinions, but also is somewhat awkward to build due to their playstyle: The “Amorphage” monsters are all Pendulum monsters (except for one monster which happens to be a Ritual Monster), which brings back bad memories in a lot of people straightaway due to some board-flooding Pendulum PTSDs. However, they also feature costly tributing mechanics to keep them alive and kicking, which raises some questions regarding their playability and longevity. But as always, let us try to understand and work with what the archetype in question has in store for us.
