Starting somewhere
I bought a washing machine. It's the first serious purchase I've made in years because my relationship with money has never been healthy. To me, having money meant being able to spend it on anything I wanted, and while part of that belief is true, it's not exactly responsible.
When I realized I was waking up early, taking buses and subways just to throw my money away on things that brought me no real return, I wanted to do something about it. So, I made a list of things I actually need to buy to meet some urgent adult-life necessities.
I'm determined to make this work so I can finally feel like I'm building something. Not only that, but I also want to invest more in my hobbies. I think it's more about thinking before spending than about not spending anything at all.
People often say that the prefrontal cortex reaches full maturity around the age of 25. This area is essential for planning, impulse control, judgment, and emotional regulation. I don't know how accurate that information really is, but if it's true, maybe that's why I'm so determined to be more careful with my money.
Interestingly, this change in behavior hasn't only affected my finances but also my emotional side. I no longer want to be the kind of person who doesn't express what they feel. I have many ideas about the kind of person I aspire to become, and I'm sure it won't be easy to let go of old habits, but the first step has already been taken.
