April 13th marked three years since Caden received his life-saving bone marrow transplant.

Well, we made it through the holidays.

Some of you know that earlier this year I contributed a chapter in the anthology, Deserts to Mountaintops the Pilgrimage of Motherhood, led by Jessica Buchanan.

My parents were both born and raised in Southern California, and after moving to Washington in 1985, we spent most summers going back for a week to stay at my grandparents’ house in Newport Beach.

10 years ago today I woke up and took this photo of myself in the mirror to document where I was in my pregnancy - 24 weeks along.

For the past two months, I felt like we were standing in place, unable to move forward, unable to make future plans; everything hinging on Caden’s last round of chemo, and the next biopsy to know what was next for us.

When I was in high school, I loved the movie “Sliding Doors”, with Gwyneth Paltrow.

An update is long overdue, but each week as I have gone to write something, we were dealt one blow after another, and sharing information and my thoughts was pushed to the back burner.

When Caden was first hospitalized in 2022, I was so overwhelmed with the shock and the grief of hearing that he had cancer, I kept to myself most of the time.

Alternate title: Seattle Children’s will be paying to have my car detailed.
