A simple idea - beautifully elegantly executed! This is one of the most attractive Summer School pedals to date. Some of that brand’s pedal aesthetics are a little ’scrap book’ in nature. While the Double Major looks particularly attractive - with a gorgeous gold hued sparkle enclosure - finished off nicely with some really cool graphics. Essentially a Double Klone pedal - with independent…
So there’s quite a lot to get stuck into here, but generally a really easy pedal to deploy, with a couple of caveats. This started off as a David Rainger idea/concept which evolved a couple of years ago - and consisted of the core mechanic of having a mini amp + speaker - where an internal condenser mic captures the output of the speaker and feeds it into overall output. In some ways the Amp…
Hot on the heels of the Canvas Volume Pedal, we now have a very similar Canvas Expression Pedal. Of course the Canvas Expression Pedal has its own controls, to go along with full MIDI In and Out support, and dual - A + B Jacks - for the control of 2 different pedals. The Canvas Expression panel controls are similar to its Volume sibling, but with different parameters covered. There are in essence…
Manlay Sound specialises in vintage fuzz and overdrive reproductions, with several derived from classic British devices for the 60’s and 70’s. The overall Manlay roster features 15 different pedals, where 5 of those are currently available at Joe’s Pedals in the UK . In fact some of those first batch are already sold out, but there will be more on the way. The ones featured here are mostly in…
I was super impressed with Wyatt’s Heiress Fuzz that I reviewed last week - a fantastic sounding Fuzz Face take with Transistor switching on the Q2 Stage - with a really potent output. The Kozel though is even more impressive - definitely S-Tier for me in that category. It brilliantly captures all the best aspects of the Big Muff profile - taking in elements of the Triangle, Ram’s Head and Sovtek…
A few years back Stu picked up a few cheap tiny solid state practice amps from his local Cash Converters pawnshop ($20-$30 each!). This included the Max Music Guitar Amp model featured in the below video/s - which is seemingly an OEM amp which carries various labels - solid state, and around 10W in output. The net effect of such small amps being almost no headroom - which means they crunch up and…
I first spotted this on Gear News - where it turns out just to be an announcement, as these don’t start shipping until the middle of October. They are however already up for pre-orders on Thomann ! And indeed already listed on Nobels.de site - just below the ODR-1X. Controls - Size (Decay), Dry > Wet Blend, Tone, Mode : Spring / Plate / Hall, Hold Footswitch for Freeze / Shimmer. This series has…
This uses the same DSP engine as Alexander’s other Leap Series pedals, while it looks quite different. It’s a really cool detour from Alexander’s usual fare - and delivers a shimmery detune style chorus underlaid by an ambient medium Hall Reverb. As mentioned - it was originally made for the Midwest Pedalfest, so I guess we’re talking about remaining stock here really - which didn’t sell through…
Pedal Pawn has some serious pedigree with Tube Screamers - you might say they’re something of a Tube Screamer expert! And this is essentially their 3rd variant, following the Texan Twang, and the Cowboy King. "The result is a glassier, more open and dynamic overdrive that retains everything players love about an original TS808 while delivering greater clarity, improved clean-up with your guitar’s…
As expected for a Steve Williams production - this is another superb high-quality build - utilising a super rare late 50’s/early 60’s RCA 2N270 Germanium Transistor. The knobs were set up so they all pointed due south - albeit I had to adjust every single one as they weren’t 100’s in alignment (and it offended my OCD) - so many knobs have odd set-screws, and these are no exception - very good…
An adventure that started back in September of 2019 and culminated at this year’s July Brighton show! I was very lucky to snag one of the very last Austin Pride editions with the classic pairing of Germanium NTE103 and Silicon NTE123 Transistors. I acquired mine during the peak of Dan Querner’s ’Fabric Wrap Era’ with really colourful designs. Later models are much more single block colours than…
