2025-12-06 Distribution Release: Oracle Linux 10.1
Gursewak Sokhi has announced the release of Oracle Linux 10.1, an updated release of the company's enterprise-class Linux distribution based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux: "Oracle Linux 10.1 is now generally available for 64-bit Intel and AMD (x86_64) and 64-bit Arm (aarch64) platforms. This release includes the following kernel options: Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 8.1 for the x86_64 and aarch64 platforms, Red Hat Compatible Kernel 6.12 for the x86_64 platform. Oracle Linux 10.1 delivers a strengthened cryptographic foundation built to support modern security requirements and emerging post-quantum cryptography (PQC) standards. OpenSSL introduces support for ML-KEM, ML-DSA, SLH-DSA, and the QUIC transport protocol, enabling more secure and efficient encrypted communication. NSS has been updated to include ML-DSA support, enhancing signature security for post-quantum readiness. GnuTLS adds certificate compression, expanded ML-DSA algorithm coverage, and improved PKCS#11 module handling. The release also enhances openCryptoki with broader PKCS#11 v3.0 mechanisms, SHA-3 and SHAKE capabilities, and expanded key-wrapping and secure key-handling features - delivering more robust capabilities for both hardware- and software-backed cryptographic operations." Gursewak Sokhi has announced the release of Oracle Linux 9 Update 6, the new stable build of Oracle's Linux distribution built from the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). This version upgrades Oracle's default Linux kernel to the long-term-supported 6.12 version: "The Oracle Linux team is pleased to announce the general availability of Oracle Linux 9.6 for 64-bit Intel and AMD (x86_64) and 64-bit Arm (aarch64) platforms. This release includes the following kernel options: Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 8 (UEK 8) 6.12 for the x86_64 and aarch64 platforms and Red Hat Compatible Kernel (RHCK) 5.14 for the x86_64 platform. The Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 8, the latest release of Oracle's purpose-built Oracle Linux kernel, is included as the default kernel in Oracle Linux 9.6 installations. UEK 8 delivers advancements in memory management, enhanced file system support, networking optimizations and platform-specific improvements. Based on the latest upstream long-term stable kernel, UEK 8 features a wide range of enhancements from Oracle and the upstream Linux community. This new version updates the OpenJDK Java platform to version 17 and the .NET development platform to version 9.0. "Oracle is pleased to announce that Oracle Linux 9 Update 5 for the 64-bit Intel and AMD (x86_64) and 64-bit Arm (aarch64) platforms is now generally available. This release is packaged with the following kernel options: Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) Release 7 Update 3, 5.15 for the x86_64 and aarch64 platforms; Red Hat Compatible Kernel (RHCK), 5.14 for the x86_64 platform. The following highlights select features, enhancements and changes introduced in this Oracle Linux 9 release: the default Oracle Linux 9 Java is changed from OpenJDK 11 to OpenJDK 17; .NET is updated to version 9.0 which enables the C#13 and F#9 programming languages; GCC Toolset 14 is available as an Application Stream in the form of a Software Collection in the AppStream repository...." Simon Coter has announced the release of Oracle Linux 9 Update 4, the latest stable release of Oracle's Linux distribution built from the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Besides a Red Hat-compatible Linux kernel 5.14, Oracle also provides a custom-built 5.15 kernel called Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK). "We are pleased to announce Oracle Linux 9 Update 4, the latest version of the premier enterprise operating system for distributed computing environments. Oracle Linux 9 Update 4 for the 64-bit Intel and AMD (x86_64) and 64-bit Arm (aarch64) platforms is now generally available. This release is application binary compatible with the corresponding Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 Update 4. The following features, enhancements and changes related to programming languages, web and database servers have been introduced in Oracle Linux 9 Update 4: Python 3.12, can be installed in parallel with Python 3.9 and Python 3.11 on the same system; Ruby 3.3.0 is included in a new ruby:3.3 module stream; PHP 8.2 is included in the new php:8.2 module stream...." Simon Coter has announced the release of Oracle Linux 9 Update 2, the latest stable version of Oracle's distribution built from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.2 source code but optionally using a custom-compiled "Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK)": "The latest releases of Oracle Linux enhance the user experience across on-premises, cloud and edge deployments, with a focus on operational consistency and improved efficiency, to accelerate time-to-market for critical infrastructure assets. Oracle Linux now supports offline upgrades. Offline upgrades can help protect a system during upgrades by performing package installations after a reboot and before libraries that might be affected by package updates have loaded. With this enhancement, running services won't be impacted by operating system updates. With offline upgrades, DNF does not apply the updates directly, but it notifies the systemd process that updates need to be applied." Simon Coter has announced the availability of the first update in the Oracle Linux 9 series, a distribution built from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.1 source code but featuring Oracle's (optional) "Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK)": "Oracle Linux 9 Update 1 for the 64-bit Intel and AMD (x86_64) and 64-bit Arm (aarch64) platforms is generally available today. This release is 100% application binary compatible with corresponding Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 Update 1 release. This Oracle Linux 9 release includes the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 7 (UEK R7). UEK R7 is based on the upstream Linux Kernel 5.15 and is supported on both Oracle Linux 9 and Oracle Linux 8. Oracle Linux 9 Update 1 reintroduces Application Stream modules and includes bug and security fixes, and feature updates. The most important changes are in the areas of security and development tools. Security: OpenSSH supports setting the minimum RSA key length; crypto-policies enforce the OpenSSH 2048-bit RSA key length minimum by default; OpenSSL option supports SHA-1 for signatures; keylime package is available." Simon Coter has announced the availability of Oracle Linux 8.7, an updated release of Oracle's Linux distribution (its legacy 8.x branch) built from source packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL): "The Oracle Linux team is pleased to announce the availability of the Oracle Linux 8 Update 7 release for the 64-bit Intel and AMD (x86_64) and 64-bit Arm (aarch64) platforms. As with all Oracle Linux releases, this release is 100% application binary compatible with the corresponding Red Hat Enterprise Linux release. Notable changes are in the areas of security and high availability and enable customers to manage their systems more efficiently by simplifying administration tasks and operations at scale. Network Security Services (NSS) libraries are updated to set the minimum key size for all RSA operations from 128 to 1023 bits. Greater compliance with the DISA's STIG requirements for Oracle Linux 8, part of the updated scap-security-guidepackage. Enhancements have been introduced for Pacemaker, including 'multiple-active', 'allow-unhealthy-node', access control lists and UUID for Pacemaker clusters."
