Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Great distro with passionate developers and user base.

Stable Debian base with up-to-date packages curated by the developers. You can always ask on the forum if you want a package to be updated.

You can also ask for a new package to be added to the repo. Request are usually granted, provided that they are compatible with the Debian Stable base. No need to use a rolling distro if you need newer versions.

Amazing and unique suite of MX Tools, that allow system administration from a GUI level. OpenSUSE used to offer something similar with YaST.

Distro is extremely stable and well put together, gives you no headaches and just works.

Amazing Distro:

folks this distro is amazing. here is why
1- solid Debian based distro.
2- have flatpacks installed and enabled, but not bushing any flatpack application on you.
all native applications in the stock distro are .deb ( so you can install flatpack applications only if you need it).
3- very optimize XFCE desktop .
4- have many useful tools
5- light weight

-----------------------
the look of the desktop.
to me, I love the old fashion look of the desktop, and I love it have no rounded corners

My old HP Probook 11 G2 is currently running MX 23.2 KDE, and the performance is honestly incredible. It is a modest little machine with just an i3 processor and 8GB of RAM, but this setup handles everything effortlessly. Before making the switch, I actually used ZorinOS as my daily driver for a couple of years. It was fine for a while, but I eventually started running into frustrating update issues that forced me to look for alternatives. That search led me to MX, and it is easily the most stable and deeply customizable distro I have ever encountered.

The built-in snapshot and live-USB creator tools are absolute game-changers for my workflow. Thanks to those features, I was able to clone my exact system configuration across all four of my home and work laptops. Now, every single machine I own has the identical layout, the same software, and the exact same user experience. It saves an immense amount of time since I never have to manually configure a new machine from scratch.

Because of how reliable it has been, I highly recommend MX Linux for pretty much any hardware configuration out there. It works beautifully whether you are trying to breathe new life into an aging laptop or setting up a brand-new, high-end PC. The operating system strikes a perfect balance between resource efficiency and modern features, making it the ultimate distro for anyone who just wants their computer to work without the headache.
