new years

Are you not going back to your hometown?

Mhm. What about you?

Same. Don't wanna celebrate the new years with that guy either.

I see... How about we celebrate together?

Us?

Who else? I figured you'd be the type to usually celebrate alone, but I thought it'd be nice if we can go somewhere together... You know those countdown events at malls? We can go there.

Hmm...

(Too many people for her preference? Or would she get uncomfortable having me of all people to celebrate with...?)

Sure thing. But the malls seem too busy for us...

Charon swiftly picks up her phone and looks up something.

Haha, yeah...

Oh, neat. The aquarium's still open.

You wanted to go to the aquarium?

...

Any other ideas?

Ah, no, it's just that...

It wouldn't be our first time going there, would it?

Mm. I would prefer something familiar for the new years... But if you have anything else to suggest, I'll go there instead.

Oh, no. It's alright, really. But wait, I thought it'd be closed during new years?

Nope, apparently. They even have a special exhibition for the new years...

No way...

questions taken from this post

What’s their ancestry? Where’s their family from? Do they know? Are they proud of their ancestors?

Her ancestry from her father's side is kept hidden from her (so she has no ideas of her cousins/grandparents from his side), though she has her personal guesses that he could've been from either the Northern or the Eastern. However, she definitely knows her mother's ancestry came from the Northern Magimire.

With her rocky relationship with her family, she has mixed feelings about her family pride. Sure, their culture has shaped her and it's become a large part of who she is, but on the other hand... She has things to complain about. Will only bring up ancestry if she feels like it's relevant to whenever she feels like stroking her ego.

If they could be or do anything in the world, who would they be? What would they be doing? What does their ideal world look like?

She did want to be a being made of magic, like Kiran. She has daydreamed many times before that if she weren't a human made of flesh and blood in the first place, she'd be having a whole lifetime's worth of exploring and exploiting her own powers.

How is their relationship to their family? How often do they speak (if at all)? How close do they feel with them?

The only family member she actively interacts with is her father, and they have a rocky relationship. Her mother and the rest of her relatives are living somewhere far away... So she's distant and pretty disconnected with the rest of her family.

Charon shuts herself off from her family.

How do they cope with stress? What’s their main go-to comfort?

Abuse caffeine. Distract herself. Drown herself in work. Pass out. Repeat.

However, for a different coping mechanism, she usually disappears to an aquarium or a museum and mess around alone for a few hours. Or she spends time alone in her room reading.

What skills do they have? What skills do they not have that they maybe should’ve learned?

...this question's hard to answer, somehow. It's kinda like asking me "what skills do I have" like what do you even count as a skill for this question. what type of skills do you want me to answer—

For the most prominient ones, she's pretty skillful when it comes to creating elementals and imbuing magic in tools.

For the ones she doesn't have... I'd imagine it's probably more on (interpersonal) social skills.

An accident has occurred, who are they calling first? Who are they closest with, and who do they trust the most? Are those two the same person? (And who would call them in the same situation?)

She's calling Theodore (her boss) first if it's a work incident. Otherwise, the next ones in her emergency numbers are David > (Arisa, later on) > Kiran > Gavin. They're the ones she registers as "older adult figures whom she trusts to solve whatever she's dealing with" (except for Arisa, whom she also sees as a trusted friend/equal).

Lord Nightfall has Charon's number in his emergency calls. Charon refuses to call him for emergencies.

What responsibilities do they have? School, work, personal?

She's mostly focused on work and magic studies. Sometimes, she has to deal with family stuff. Every now and then, her coworkers invite her out.

How do they feel about their government? Or other forms of authority?

euuuuuueghh

(About the best answer I can give.)

What’s their perfect day look like?

No work. No family bullshit. No other incidents.

What would absolutely destroy them? What can’t they live without?

Honestly, her work is one of the main things holding her together. If she's fired, she'd lose 90% of life purpose and be stuck with Nightfall. A very bleak scenario to her.

In a similar vein... I imagined she couldn't go for a whole day doing absolutely nothing. She has to do something. She has to. She's got to do something, despite it all. If her ability to do stuff is taken away from her in one way from another, then she'd be down pretty fast

stuff to be sorted out later from my notes
  • generally pretty lethargic + tired of everyone's shit. arisa's presence does lighten her mood up a lot
  • her drive often revolves around control. control over herself. control over others. control over the world. control over the narrative in her life.
  • however, there are a lot of times she's just plain exhausted from fighting nail and tooth for control, so she often resorts to numb her mind to the unpleasantness in her life. escapism would be nice too, but she can't really get out of a lot of situations. she still has responsibilities.
  • avoidant tendencies. people take too much of her energy/sanity sometimes + she can get pretty vigilant of people, so it's often much easier to just mess around on her own. being alone is pretty comforting too, considering the company she frequently finds herself with (see: her family)...
  • her vision of "making magimire a better place" includes optimizing her elementals for efficiency and the elementals' wellbeing (so they don't turn into sprites). reassembling + honing the sprites so they get a nicer second life and not attack others. along with that, her ambitions also include taking away magic from reckless wizards who hoard magic, since she considers them to be the main culprits behind the sprites... (she sideeyes nightfall)
  • divorced parents (charon is the only child of nightfall and her birth mother). initially grew up with step-siblings who were also fathered by nightfall, until she moves out to live on her own with nightfall's support. little contact with her siblings
  • pretty pessimist view on people. doesn't really assume good things from them
  • "is she the type to accept great power from some unknown eldritch being (and said power has great consequences when it falls under her possession)" yes. yeah. if she can take care of her loved ones and the world with this power, then she'll take it.
  • grew up internalizing her father's immoral reputation + unlikability. thinks she's also pretty fucked up too. however, she is better than him!!! she's not going around creating sprites!!!
  • not the type to believe in unconditional love. sees her worth in "what i can do for others". since she also perceives herself as pretty unlikable, she might as well try to win favors by doing things for them instead.
  • not physically fit. type to get exhausted after long walks.
