Workplace Superpower: Creating clarity—turning ambiguity into growth paths that make employees feel seen, supported, and unstoppable.
Matt Moog’s career has always revolved around possibility. “Since I was a kid, I’ve been making lists of ideas,” he laughs. By college, he was running a print directory that paid his tuition. After a few years at Microsoft, he launched his first startup at 26 and became CEO of a public company at 31.
He’s built and led multiple ventures since—including PowerReviews, Built In, and Chicago Public Media (home of WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times). What ties them together? A love for creating systems where people can thrive. “I like the early days of scraping your way to a product and customer set—but I also love scaling what we build,” he says.
Today, his latest venture, CareerBird, channels three decades of leadership into one mission: helping people grow.
For Matt, workplace delight starts with clarity. “The number one reason people leave organizations is lack of career development,” he says. Employees want to know where they’re going and how to get there.
CareerBird helps companies define success for every role, assess skill proficiency, and match each employee with curated learning paths and future opportunities—all powered by AI. “We tie your learning journey to your career journey,” he explains. “If you come to work every day knowing you’re building toward something, that’s meaningful.”
His framework centers on two human motivators—mastery and autonomy. “When people can get better at their craft and feel trusted to do their work their way, satisfaction and performance rise together,” he says.
Matt believes the future of work demands both courage and curiosity. “Twenty-five percent of job skills are changing every year,” he notes. “Leaders have to help people adapt, not just react. When employees see a path forward, they don’t fear change—they delight in it.”
