Full disclosure, this is kind of a longer-than-usual email, and I’ll need to step up onto my soapbox for a minute.

I’m a pretty solid multitasker.

The Iowa State Fair is truly one of the greatest times of the year, because it’s a celebration of all things Iowa — our food, culture, music, way of life, and community.

Folks, I’m Dave Muhlbauer — a fifth-generation family farmer, lifelong Iowan, and Rob Sand’s running mate for lieutenant governor in the Iowa governor’s race.

I’m not exactly the prototypical candidate for governor in Iowa: I’m also the State Auditor, a skateboarder, a bowhunter, and — if you can believe it in 2026 — still the only statewide elected official who openly supports legalizing weed.

The single most important thing that we can do to break the deadlock and fend off Zach Lahn’s attacks is have conversations with as many Iowans as possible.

It’s already been an incredibly busy Wednesday, because on top of all the usual campaign hustle and bustle, it also just so happens to be my birthday!
