An exploration of this central part of the church and rural economy before it was crushed by the Reformation

St Laurence, whose feast day is 10th August, was an immensely popular saint in the medieval period and if you look carefully, pretty much every medieval church which still has stained glass has an image of him.

In my recent visit to Herefordshire, I wanted to go to a little church called St Margarets which contained a rood screen, described by Pevsner as “one of the wonders of Herefordshire.”
