Hello and Welcome To My Substack

This is an impromptu post about skin and face for men and women a face workout video I made about 5 yrs ago, which I still do sometimes.

Two events from conversations with a man and woman prompted me to make this post. These days, higher proportion of my friends and colleagues are men.

One of the conversations that inspired this article took place during a group Zoom call with one discussion topic:

“Why Do Women in Their 20s Get Botox?”

This was not the focus of the meeting or even the group. It was a group of women discussing and sharing ideas on safe skin care, and face exercises came up. The whole discussion was about how the pressure to look a certain way is affecting men and women, even in their 20s, as getting surgery, Botox or fillers is easy these days.

Have I ever tried Botox?

Yes when I was 29 as some of my fellow uni students left medicine and dentistry, as I was getting disillusioned with science, so they needed ‘guinea pigs’ to practice cosmetics on. Of course, friends were dragged in first. Nothing horrible happened, even if getting a paralysed eye temporarily is possible, that didn’t happen. The botox about 3 months.

In this post I will go over in brief what I used to do that relates to skin.

This said group zoom call (connect with Meredith Oke if you want to know more about this group) evolved into a big conversation with my colleagues afterwards, which went into:

Women & Men ‘Women not feeling sexy, even when they are hot in the opinion of others’

A Dad:‘My 13 yr old was asking about nose and boob jobs’

Men: ‘It’s the women who don’t want sex, as they dont feel sexy when they are, and that’s why we wank. A lot of the time its without any internet visual wank material’

Men: ‘I want a real woman in my bed so I can feel her against me as I love the feeling of skin on skin’

Men and women ‘Lets talk about sexy ugly as I have fancied lots of those people’

An ‘Ugly Cute Dog’ - This one belongs to my friend Sally

I don’t post a lot of my chats online, some are very funny or rude, but true. I have to be professional online I am afraid for my credibility with collaborators and professionals. But I have other much older colleagues with the same humour (in private) like Professor YK Leung who is 74. FYI in China we just say Mr Chong or Professor Lu, madam Wong and often don’t know first names. I am Dr Sara to my chinese friends and Professor Leung and others find Pugh too funny and start giggling at Dr Poo.

Laughing is a facial workout and like hypnosis, or spontaneous, or bliss states, activate numerous parts of the brain and produces a variety of helpful hormones and biomolecules. Body’s natural medicines or ‘jade oil’ as the Chinese would say.

The other was a WhatsApp conversation, and further discussions, with my married male colleague, Tino. Tino is very polite, pure Spanish gentleman by the way.

Among many other things, we discussed his idea of making skincare ointments from Agnihotra ash, which led to a conversation about making our own face masks and skin care using a variety of natural ingredients, including honey, cheese and Blue Nile powder.

Sara: How old are you, Tino?

Tino: 52.

Sara: Oh really!!

Tino: Yes, I am well kept. (Said in a Spanish accent like Puss in Boots from Shrek.)

I shared part of that WhatsApp conversation in my previous Substack, “What I Do in Yorkshire for Health, Without a Tropical Beach.”

It seemed to resonate with a lot of people as I shared photos of my day, what I was doing, and some of my photography is shit and my garden was quite messy that day. It was simply “this is as it is.” “A spade is a spade’.

In this post I showed what I bought at the Farmers’ Market, and there were ‘skin healthy foods according to my understanding’ Some of the shopping was for making a face mask based on what Tino and I were discussing, including the 20x fermented kefir, as it can be used as a gentle acid peel or a cleanser.

Duck Eggs - The yolks are a nutrition bomb so I use them raw in vitality shots or I make very soft boiled eggs

Oxtail: A collagenous meat with many other nutrients for connective tissue and skin

Heart: Nutritious and a natural source of minerals and Q Q10

Carrots: Have B carotene and I have the genetics to convert it well to retinol

Chillies: I like them and they have many uses. Not good if you have leaky gut

Tino Barber and I recently hosted a live Zoom webinar on Biofields, Polarity Therapy, Consciousness & Quantum Biology. If you missed it, here’s the recording and its NOT a public video. I did accidentally upload it as public and realised when it got 300 views in 3 hrs. Its back to unlisted now.

My colleagues and I plan to host more of these group Zoom sessions. I tend to reserve my YouTube channel for interviews with experts in their fields, while my solo videos are usually presentations on topics that I later teach in person or present to my members’ group

Sara's Coaching Group

When I taught Pilates from 2009 (to men and women), we did face exercises, which clients enjoyed.

Class: Will this get rid of my wrinkles or turkey neck?

Sara: That’s the idea if you do them regularly.

Some people are willing to put the time in to get results, which is what I do, but nowadays people are looking for a quick fix they can buy to get “results”.

There are no unwanted surprise side effects with face exercises or internal Daoist medicine either.

I credit Eva Fraser here. I also made a video in 2021, which is a whole lesson just on Face Exercises as part of a series of 14 online Floorless Online Pilates Lessons. I have put the video at the end of the post.

When it comes to professional deep acid peels, they can be too harsh and take away layers of the skin needed for signalling, as well as taking away too much skin. This then makes the skin much more likely to sunburn because, in an unnatural way, you have removed the skin’s natural barrier.

I personally do not get sunburned and, with my kefir, it is not a professional peel. I simply use it as a cleanser in the evening.

So, in the long term, deep acid peels can actually result in the opposite effect, making the skin look older.

As you know, I am a strong advocate of going outside and believe UV is vital for life. Stop demonising the Sun. Too much UV and burning, in my view, is not a good idea, but do as you wish.

If I had to talk about skin from the age of 15 to now, we would be here all day, so I will keep it brief.

  • I had mild acne as a teenager and did the usual of using Clearasil, face scrubs cleanse, tone and moisturise (I stole my mum’s expensive face creams). It sort of worked but made dry red skin. I grew out of acne at 19. - NOT GOOD

  • There were no smartphones, and I didn’t watch much TV, including at university. I spent a lot of time outside and even went through a phase of being vegetarian for about 7yrs. - GOOD MINIMAL TECH - NOT GOOD VEGETARIAN

  • I smoked for about 8 years from the age of 18. During that time, I tried to quit around 10 times using Nicorette gum, but kept restarting because doing a PhD and then a postdoc was very stressful. Working in a lab is something you cannot possibly understand unless you have done it. - Nicotine has many useful medical uses for the mitochondria and parasympathetic SMOKING NO!.

Comments here: Even if people think a degree or PhD is a load of crap and worthless. At least in a lab or degree you learn the very basics of science and you put them into practice daily in the lab or in practicals.

Then you can see with your own eyes how chemistry and science work and you can be taught practical skills from technicians or experienced scientists. Like understanding how to make up solutions, so you can do it at home and know what a 1% solution or 20ug/ml at home.

Anyway back to being in the lab.

  • Despite that, I laughed at least ten times every day, and sometimes they were full-on laughing attacks. I still laugh everyday and I think laughter like orgasms are a special ‘energy’ for lifeforce and then of course physical health.

  • I have never been into drinking alchohol. I think I was drunk about five times at university, and every time ended in some really weird-ass adventure. We all have university or college drinking stories.

  • I cycled to Leeds University every day in all weather. It is about 6 miles from my house, so I naturally got lots of morning light and .

  • I didn’t get an iPhone until about 2013–2014. I loved my Motorola Razr flip phone.

  • Back then there were lots of reasons to leave the lab to collect things from stores or other labs. Smoking was also allowed in public, so every department had its own smokers’ gang outside and we used to each lunch outside together. There were places to sit if it was raining.

  • I played football (soccer) for Leeds University and became addicted to squash and Thai boxing. Lots of sweating... although squash courts have awful lighting.

  • Until about 22, I only had takeaways about once a month or less, usually curry or doner kebab. Since then, it’s probably been about once a year.

  • Most of my meals revolved around eggs, chicken, fish, broccoli, fruit, protein shakes, apples, and curry. I did eat chocolate sometimes.

  • Anybody who has worked in science in the UK knows vending machines and cafes are all over the place on campus. Academics who are meant to be the smartest people on earth can’t seem to feed themsleves

  • I reintroduced beef around 2004, as I felt the BSE nonsense unfairly damaged the beef industry.

  • My PhD supervisor (who I will invite onto my podcast) had 20–25 people studying amyloid, protein folding and prions, yet happily ate beef throughout the BSE crisis. She used to joke that “she is a mad cow.”

  • Experiments have minds of their own, and bacteria certainly don’t work 9–5. I often stayed in the lab until late at night. BAD FOR CIRCADIAN RHYTHM & SKIN

  • I also developed a bit of OCD about leaving expensive equipment on, especially the fluorescence lasers. Many times I drove back to the lab at 1 am or 4 am thinking:

“Shit... I left the laser on.”

It was off... every single time.

I also used to repeatedly check that my front door was locked. Thankfully, that stopped after I left science.

That whole topic deserves a separate post.

I also got mixed night’s sleep because I have never liked lights very much and naturally preferred going to bed fairly early.

I also understand that many readers have teenagers or children who drive them mad by refusing to take part in their health journey. To us, it can seem so obvious why they have problems—not just with their skin, but with their mental health or pain—yet they simply won’t listen.

The same is true for husbands and wives. I hear just as many people say, “The Mrs won’t do what I suggest or even watch the YouTube videos I send her,” as I do, “My husband thinks I’m mad and even turns the lights on just to annoy me.”

I didn’t really eat much sweet food or fruit.

I gave up bread at about 25.

Interestingly, there is a correlation between high deuterium in teeth and tooth decay.

So the whole idea that sugar and fruit alone rot teeth has another layer to it.

We all know people who eat fruit or high-carb foods with perfect teeth, and others who avoid them but still have bad teeth.

Dentists in the UK have also told me they think bananas and orange juice are among the worst foods for teeth, and neither grows naturally in the UK.

This idea of sweet food or chocolate gives you acne, deuterium will be a key player.

I have been fascinated by deuterium for a long time.

It has been linked to a huge number of diseases and conditions, including cancer.

If you want to explore the topic further, look up the work of:

  • Dr Boros

  • Dr Stephanie Seneff

  • Dr Gábor Somlyai

  • Dr Jack Kruse

All have been guests on my podcast discussing deuterium.

I often think of deuterium as being a Yin & Yang concept — “Light & Dark.”

Jim Al Khalili describes the binary code when he explains quantum physics to lay people.

Collagen and connective tissue have a deuterium component, as do:

  • Heart disease

  • Diabetes

  • Blood vessel health

  • Brain function

  • Muscles

  • Gut

As deuterium in the wrong places affects all of biology, it will also influence your skin, your hormones and your mitochondria, which are all important for healthy skin.

Your morning poo (or dump) is also a deuterium dump, and this is triggered by light, which is yet another reason to watch sunrise, or if you miss it, get outside as soon as you can.

As this is a skin post, it is the triplet oxygen that you need to make the collagen triple helix and make sure it winds tightly, so it is not loose; it is the singlet oxygen that creates inflammation.

Triplet oxygen has two unpaired electrons with parallel spin, so the total spin is ‘1’. This type of oxygen is more quantumly coherent and is what most of the oxygen in the atmosphere is.

The singlet ,oxygen the pairing of electrons is different and one of the flips its spin, so total spin is ‘0’. These are the reactive oxygen species, and out of control they damage cellular structures and lipids. The singlet oxygen is important during photosynthesis, so has its vital role in life.

This is an important Yin Yang pair, the up spin and the down spin on the electron and the total spin state of 0 or 1.

Grounding is key to ensuring you make enough triple oxygen, and you have to go outside to do this properly. Grounding mats do not give you full coherence, and you become part of the alternating electric current field, regardless of plugging it into the earth socket.

Men can laugh at women outside barefoot doing yoga, but its free and its not only important for skin, its very important in how calcium is regulated. I have seen far more men with high CAC than women.

Finally, Logan Duval from Sowing Prosperity has produced some superb podcasts with many leading researchers on deuterium and cancer, so a shout-out to him.

Logan's Youtube

Logan Duvall is a lovely man. Even if you don’t like some of his guests or disagree with their views, he’s genuinely trying his best to help people with cancer because of what happened with his son. Lately, he has been feeling that his energy and enthusiasm for posting and recording podcasts is waning. At the end of the day, he just wants to educate people. I go through these phases sometimes too.

If you would like to come to one of my retreats in South France In Sept / Oct the information is below.

This video also has foot exercises at the end as I forgot I had done a 2 in 1.
