This poem emerged as I was preparing to teach a class the other day where we were somatically exploring the contrasting qualities of egg and sperm.

Have you ever visited The fountain of poetry? Toss in a penny And a poem pops out. If only it were so simple. I chase these poems As they play hide and seek Or sometimes tag They can be shy Sliding behind shady trees Slithering between rocks Avoiding light on a sunny day Delivering it at night. Is that the moon shining Or my latest poem Emerging from the lake Like the mermaid seldom seen? Words…

This month of July is significant for me in special ways.

Since September, I have been committed to writing a poem each day.

When every ounce of energy Seems to have drained From spaces of the body Something else Must emerge. Like a cactus Blooming in the desert With the smallest rain. The body wants its fluids… Water the cells! Feed the tissues! Awaken the neurons Antennae to the stars! Creativity begins to surge Generating energy That had been forgotten. Yes, Life is possible!

Have you ever had the experience of an intense emotion, like anger, fear, or even what feels like love, arising suddenly, as if out of nowhere?

Yesterday I came home from the dentist and cried.
