The holidays feel a little different this year. Nashville has slipped into its long stretch of gray, and with Luke turning seventeen soon, the whole decorating-and-gifting rhythm has naturally shifted. So instead of trying to force old routines, I’ve been leaning into the kitchen and picking recipes that feel festive and just challenging enough to be fun. These red and green sable cookies did exactly that: fussy, gorgeous, and absolutely worth the effort.
While I was knee-deep in dough, I started thinking about gifts in a new way this season, less about the big gesture and more about choosing things that genuinely get used, loved, and appreciated.
