Making Compost: Pile, Bin, Bury, Bokashi?

There are probably as many compost making strategies as there are people who make compost. Some garden writers may express that there is only one right way. However, what we do needs to fit into our lives, our space, and work well in our climate. In addition, we don’t all have the same mix or volume of materials available to turn into compost, so the same system will not work for all of us.

Seventeen or our subscribers provided composting tips on our Subscriber chat, and every one of them is different! Most of them involve using piles or bins, with a very a few people burying their compostables, either fresh or after bokashi fermentation.

Some of the folks using bins and piles never turn their compost, some rarely turn it, and some turn it fairly frequently.
