Starting with peas, you can plant them in a spot (or a container) that gets at least six hours of full sun a day. They can be planted ‘as soon as the soil can be worked’ in the spring, and then again after the weather cools off in the fall. Beans, on the other hand, like warm or even hot weather.

It’s always a good idea to read the back of your seed packet before planting, or if you have received a gift of saved seed from another gardener, be sure to ask questions.
