Beer: Particularly dark beer, was mentioned by quite a few people. I have had the best results by using a cottage cheese type container, and sinking it in the soil or mulch up to its brim, and adding only an inch of two of beer to the bottom. The slugs crawl in (as well as snails and sometimes other pests), and they usually don’t crawl out. You can bury the drowned pests in the morning or after a few days, and repeat. You can easily make as many traps as you need. If you are diligent about checking your beer traps, and emptying them before they get too full, you can reduce your overall slug and snail population and keep the ick factor down to a dull roar.
