Most of us know that slopes, river and stream banks, and road cuts can slide. We know it, though often only vaguely and seldom contemplate it, unless we have witnessed it happening or encountered the aftermath. And even then, we may think about soil- and rock-slides in compartments, as if it only happens along a certain stretch of road, only on a certain curve of the river, or only after a heavy rain that was proceeded by a fire.
We rarely consider that the slopes in our own gardens, yards, or on the property where we work could slide, and we rarely think about the fact that there are things we can do, that might make a slide more possible.
I am going to tell you a story about one of my cousins, Ms. Rose. She lost half her garden to a slide. I am going to start the story well before life set her up for that to happen.
