Email Fail, Part 54
Two women are buying a hefty amount of makeup and beauty products.
Me: “Do you have a rewards account with us?”
Customer #1: “Yes, it’s Sharon.”
No other information seems to be forthcoming.
Me: “Okay, madam, can I have your phone number or email address?”
Customer #1: “No! That’s private! Just use my name!”
Customer #2: “Sharon, my lovely, please stop and think for a second why a national chain with hundreds of shops can’t look up your account with just your first name.”
Customer #1: “But why should they get my email?”
Customer #2: *Picks up a brand of makeup.* “Why are you buying this brand?”
Customer #1: “Because they sent me a voucher!”
Customer #2: “And how did they send you that voucher?”
Customer #1: “They emailed it to—oh.”
Customer #2: *Stares.*
Customer #1: *To me, sheepishly.* “It’s Sharon-at-[whatever]-dot-com.”
