Here’s what happened during the week of July 13–19, 2026.

Home for the Week

I spent the week back at home in Ohio, while the spousal unit was away on a business trip. It was my first week at home as a “retiree,” although that’s a misnomer because I am still employed — albeit only part-time — and am still as busy as ever. I admit though that I do not miss my “day job.”

Charlie, our 8-month-old puppy, had her appointment to get spayed. It was a stressful day, but she made it through without too much apparent difficulty. She dislikes the Elizabethan collar, but has been managing well. Her biggest frustration is not being allowed to run freely through the back yard, but that restriction will be lifted soon.

One of the things I’m hoping to achieve now that I have a little more spare time is to go through the boxes and boxes of stuff that has accumulated over the years. Among the artifacts was a box containing ticket stubs from concerts, sporting events, the theatre, and more. I plan to scan or photograph things like this so I can retain the memories without having to store it all — especially since a lot of this stuff has been gradually degrading over time.

As the spousal unit and I have been contemplating life after we are BOTH retired, we’ve been thinking a lot about how we might spend our time together. One of the possibilities is to do some traveling with an RV. So we went to look at Airstream. We now have an idea of approximately what size and model we would buy, but we most likely would buy used. No timeline as yet either, still just in the dreaming phase.

I returned to Tucson on Sunday for another two week stint. Upon my arrival I discovered that the air conditioning was not working! (Déjà vu!) This just happened at my mother’s place two weeks ago! I was able to get on the schedule for the heating a cooling folks out on Monday, so fingers crossed! (Update: they came on Monday, as scheduled, and it as an easy fix — bad cap. Whew!) Sunday night sleeping without AC was a challenge though!

Airport food tip if you’re ever in terminal C of the Denver airport and looking for breakfast: skip McDonald’s and head over to La Casita. They have a great breakfast burrito.
