It’s Official (Weeknote No. 26-27)
My Last Week of Full Time Office Work
After years of planning and months of counting down, my retirement from full time work finally arrived! I hadn’t thought about how the week would play out, so I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised that is was a strange week.
-
Monday was sort of a normal day. I worked from home, as I had done for most of the last nine years. I say “worked” here, but my calendar had opening a lot so there were a couple of meetings and that’s about it.
-
I went into the office in Tuesday for a few more meetings, but mostly because there was to be a happy hour in my honor at a local place called Pins Mechanical. There was a nice turnout and I got to tell some stories and enjoy the company of colleagues and friends over beers.
-
I hadn’t been planning to go into the office on Wednesday, but the boss man told me at happy hour that I should bring my laptop in and that I could finish the week early. No problem, I said. There was one important meeting I needed to take, and a raft of emails I wanted to send. The emails ended up being harder to write owing to some unanticipated emotional entanglements. But I got it done and was out the door by 11:00 AM.
-
I spent the day Thursday eating. Breakfast with my daughter, who was about to leave for the weekend, and whom I would not see again for more than a week. Lunch with a colleague who has been with me on some huge projects. Dinner with another colleague who has become a friend outside the office.
-
While Friday should have been my last day, it was instead of day of getting chores done around the house in preparation for my going away for a month. Cleaning, packing, etc. etc.
-
On **Saturday I wrote the obligatory LinkedIn post. I got quite a few very nice messages in reply. If you happen to be on LinkedIn and would like to connect, visit my profile and message me.
Other Happenings
-
Ham Radio highlight of the week: my new QSL cards arrived.
-
On Sunday I arrived in Tucson. (Yes, it’s hot.) I flew Colorado One from Las Vegas to Tucson. I wasn’t able to get a picture, but I did snap one of the winglets.

- Xanadu (1980)

Listening
- The Bear - Final Season soundtrack by Christian Lundberg. I’m completely obsessed with this soundtrack. “Honey” could be another iconic track.
