Two Weeks Notice (Weeknote No. 26-25)
Goings On
⏱️ The big personal highlight is that I tendered my resignation ahead of my upcoming retirement. I’ve begun gleefully declining meetings.
🚘 We accomplished something we thought we never would: after four years in this house, we can finally get a car in the garage!.
🧩 We attended another Puzzled Pint, an evening of problem solving with longtime friends over beers and pizza. If you like puzzles and beers and have a few like-minded friends, I can’t recommend this enough.
🪠 What started benignly as a backed up toilet quickly devolved into a catastrophe that ended up taking several days to get fully resolved. Short version is that a cast iron tee became completely blocked and backed up the drains for an entire section of our house. I’ll spare you the details but it was biblical. The good news is that after two visits from the plumbers (and two substantial checks) everything is back to normal.
🚙 We took a weekend trip to Michigan to see some old friends and to attend my cousin’s high school graduation party. It was a lot of fun and we always wonder why we let so much time go by between visits. (It was three years since the last time we drove up there.) My cousin and I agreed that we’d try to do better and at least call or text each other once in a while.1
🎙️ I received my new vanity call sign, NZ6A, from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). If you’re into that sort of thing and want to read more, I wrote about it over on my amateur radio blog.
🎉 We celebrated 614 Day. The date, June 14th, is inspired by our 614 area code. It’s a quirky “holiday” to celebrate our quirky city. But mostly, it’s the day we can get discounted tickets to the Ohio State Fair for $6.14!
New Foods
🇬🇷 Skillet Pastitsio was a big hit with guests.
🍔 Beer cheese burger Pringles were not.
Web Dev Geekery
🤓 I launched a new navigation mechanism using the hamburger menu. It now gives a unified user experience across seven blogs: six omg.lol/weblog blogs and one some.pics photo blog. My big photo/video archive still stands apart.

Reading
- “The Machine Learns to Listen” by Tom Salzer, claims that the evolution of amateur radio, from vacuum tubes to AI-driven software hasn't diminished its essence, which will only be lost if we stop learning.
My “cousin” is two people here: my first cousin, who is close to my age, and her daughter, who just graduated high school and who is more precisely my first cousin once removed. ↩
