The Make It Dispatch #3

Watch the video 👆 to go BTS of my quest to make my brain like Teflon to the bad things, by utilizing creative therapy and the science of rituals.

Recently, working on this project has been such creative therapy, and it’s one of the best outlets, imho. Seeing how it helps me access a whole new flow state vs perpetual urghhhhhhh! spiral is amazing. However, it’s not always that optimized, even with the best intentions.

That’s where rituals can enter the chat.

Building on the science of rituals, I want to offer a couple below to help us move through the creative process when we feel stuck or anxious.

Ritual One

Do this when you feel frustrated or stuck.

Mantra: “When I’m backed in a corner, I can think myself into a creative solution.”

Supplies:

  • Pen

  • Paper

  • Tape

The Steps:

  1. On a small piece of paper, write the name of something essential that you need to make your creative project.

  2. Tear it up.

  3. Arrange the pieces so that none of the original letters touch or are in sequence. (It won’t look neat or pretty, and that’s okay.)

  4. Put tape across to hold it together. Honor the mess. Breathe and witness that it isn’t as you first wrote it. Life can throw these kinds of curveballs. This is a controlled one. Breathe. You’re safe. You’re okay.

  5. On a fresh piece of paper, write down three ways you can proceed with your project without using that item. You are more resourceful than you know. You can think of it. Stretch what you suppose is possible. There’s no right or wrong. Just like how you rearranged the paper to be something entirely different than what you started with, the answer is within you, even if it’s not clear immediately. You have proved to yourself that you are a problem solver.

  6. Fold this paper toward you to lock in the good vibes you’ve created by thinking your way to new possibilities.

Ritual Two

Do this when you want to let go of anxiety or expectations.

Mantra: “I can let go of control and let what’s for me come to me.”

Supplies:

  • Bay leaf or tea bag

  • Pen

  • Access to the outdoors or an indoor plant

The Steps:

  1. Sit down and rub your hands together until they feel warm.

  2. Pause and feel the energy tingling in your palms.

  3. Take a bay leaf, or a (dry) tea bag, and write down one word that you hope for. What are you trying to achieve that you are anxious you won’t get, or have hopeful expectations for? It could be money, safety, creativity, acceptance… Use whatever word comes to you and feels most true.

  4. Go outside (or use a potted indoor plant) and dig a small hole in the soil.

  5. Crumble the leaf or tear open the bag. Bury the leaf/tea in the dirt. This will allow the intentions of the word you wrote to take root. You’re offering it to something different than your own self and thoughts. Let it sprout and trust that it is working as you continue to take aligned action.

As promised…

Now over to you…

Tell me in the comments: are you going to try one of the above rituals? Or do you have any of your own?

Plus, seen any angel numbers recently? ;)
