This month the magazine is taking an in depth look at how the holidays can shape your writing or, in one case, help you with your marketing. Therefore, the writing prompts reflect this. I genuinely love there are so many different holidays that can be reflected in our writing. This gives the stories we are writing so much more depth and ground them in time and place. Of course, don’t forget they are also ripe for article writing. So, without further ado, on with the prompts, so you can get writing.

It’s early August, and with the temperature and humidity so high, the last thing you want to do is spend much time outside. But this month’s theme, “Harnessing the Holidays,” offered a welcome change of scenery. As I looked through and shared pictures from a holiday I love, I felt as though I had been given a little reprieve from the summer heat—a crisp, cool breeze.
Some of our family traditions have been around for as long as I can remember, while others have been brought into our family as it has grown. Either way, what I love most about the holidays is being together. It’s the traditions we share, the gifts we exchange, the lights we put up, and so much more. These little things become big memories that we carry with us.
Last year, my granddaughter and I created a picture box. I took individual pictures and used a collage app to bring them all together. It was a brand-new idea for us, and both sides of our family absolutely loved it!
Now we’re already thinking about what we can create for this year. Whatever we come up with, I know it will be another opportunity to celebrate our family, our traditions, and taking pictures to capture the most precious moments.
