Hello you beautiful people! Welcome to Wit’s Queer Chronic-ills, a place for community and conversations about health, neurodivergence, chronic illness and disability at the intersection of queerness and LGBTQ+ living. Each week there is something new posted from me, and whether it is a drawing or an essay, you can be sure to see me posting something about my life and how I’m existing in the world as a queer, trans, and disabled person. Since I went from 50 to 250 subscribers seemingly overnight, here’s a little comic to introduce myself.
I regularly make comics and illustrations and either turn them into zines or post them here on Substack or to my Portfolio. I am currently working on getting my art ready for an online shop, but some of my most popular work I made over 4 years ago on an iPad I no longer own, so some designs have to be redone and that takes time. If you are local to Seattle, I have a couple of events coming up where you can purchase a zine or prints and you can read about those here: Squid Wit’s Summer Tour
The Adventures of Squid Wit is completely self-published. If you’d like to help me out, or just want to say thanks for being here, click the link below to leave a tip or buy me a matcha. It is extremely appreciated and I do a little dance each time someone supports me. It’s sort of like Elaine mixed with the Shaq Shuffle!
The biggest news of the week is the debut of “The Adventures of Squid Wit: Vol. 2” on Sunday at the Seattle Zine Fest! I am tabling from 3-6pm at the Quality Flea Center, for only the second half of the show, but this will be the first time “Volume 2” will be available in person. I am so excited for you all to see it, it is definitely my best work to date!
Squid Wit Vol. 2 documents my move across Seattle during a breakup and one of my worst health flares of the last 4 years. It deals with mixed feelings of sadness, overwhelm and excitement for new beginnings. The art style is a more traditional pen and ink comic style as I was moving and only wanted a bag of pens and one notebook to draw with. This is also the first comic where I had input from graphic memoir legend Nicole Georges, so it has a real through line, and I am really proud of it. I really hope you like it and fall in love with Squid Wit as I have. Visit my store for a digital version of Volume 1 and Volume 2 once it is debuted on 7/26! Who knows, I might just post it early as a treat! (hehehe) Here is a short preview of Vol. 2:
That’s all from me this week! Next week I hope to have an essay done about something you all had a lot of input on in a note I left a few days ago…
I also have a new illustration coming soon that was inspired by another note I made from the “Flare Lair!” Perhaps this is a dragon named Flary Larry and maybe he hoards… spoons… Here’s a sneak peek at that one!
That’s all from me. Take care and keep building your community. We all need each other more than ever right now.
Thanks for reading Wit's Queer Chronic-ills! This post is public so feel free to share it.
