Hello again! How has April treated you so far? Has the season really changed where you are? For us there’s been the usual big spring shift—both our work schedules started up again in earnest, driving hours in opposite directions to play in the dirt. This week felt like August not April, but it’s been nice to fall asleep to the heat wave’s evening thunderstorms. One of these evenings (at my mom’s reminding) I watched the live feed of the Artemis II splashdown, which soothed my space-nerd heart. Outside, the landscape has truly flushed out, forsythia and daffodils, then magnolia and willows. I planted spinach and lettuce, and discovered a dozen garlic and elephant garlic blubs that I moved to the herb garden. The snakes and turtles are waking up too, and the war of attrition against our resident wood chuck is fully underway.
After two (or maybe more like four) creatively fallow months, I’m writing again. It’s been more a cannon ball than a toe-dip. I’m deep in the revision trenches on THE PASSING OF EIR LAHREN, and with my agent’s guidance (which still feels surreal to say!) I’m loving where this story is going as I make it weirder and darker and sexier. While I enjoy the growing pangs of my writing career, I’m thinking back to all the different writing paths and creative processes I heard about doing the podcast years ago. This has me a bit nostalgic, so I’m bringing back author interviews! They’ll be in written form, so it’s easier to connect with authors in different time zones and with wildly different or busy schedules, and will be added to the bonus posts currently featuring the reviews and essays that I share here. I already have four lined up, and I cant wait to share the authors I’ve loving lately!

I finally binged Heated Rivalry, complete with the hammer-texting to a friend who saw it first. A lot of “are they going to Good Omens/OFMD us here?” “BUTTS!” and “after a tuna melt? Really?” I followed that up with Call Me By Your Name, which felt like it was an attempt at capturing the same vibes and themes as (the vastly superior, in my opinion) Queer, but was still a pretty watch during a heat wave. I have three books I’m dying to finish and review—The Iliac Crest, You Weren’t Meant to be Human, Bury Your Gays—once my revisions are complete, but for your reading pleasure in the meantime, I have two sales for this month! The April Sci-Fi and Fantasy Sale and the Season-Long Spring SFFH.
