“Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.” — Hebrews 11:6
Hebrews 11 celebrates men and women who trusted God even when they could not see what He was doing. At the heart of their obedience was faith—a settled confidence that God is real, trustworthy, and faithful to those who seek Him.
Faith is more than believing that God exists. James reminds us that even demons believe in God’s existence. Biblical faith goes further. It trusts God’s character and responds to Him with obedience. We believe His promises because we believe the One who made them.
This becomes especially important when circumstances seem to contradict what we know about God. We may pray without seeing an immediate answer. We may obey without knowing where obedience will lead. We may endure a difficult season while wondering what God is accomplishing. Faith continues seeking Him anyway.
Hebrews also says God “is a rewarder of those who seek him.” This does not promise that faithful Christians will receive everything they desire. The greatest reward of seeking God is God Himself—knowing Him, walking with Him, and ultimately enjoying His presence forever.
God is not asking us to manufacture perfect confidence. He calls us to take Him at His Word. Each time we trust His promises and obey His commands, our lives declare that He is worthy of our confidence.
Identify one situation where uncertainty is challenging your faith. Instead of waiting until you understand everything, choose one step of obedience based on what God has already revealed in His Word.
Lord, strengthen my faith in Your character and promises.
Help me seek You even when I cannot see what You are doing.
Teach me to trust and obey You in every circumstance.
