You Attract What You Haven’t Healed

You think it’s coincidence.

The same kind of person,
just wearing a different face.

Different names.
Different voices.
Same ending.

At first, you call it “bad luck.”

Then “wrong timing.”

Then you get tired enough
to call it a pattern

but never long enough
to call it what it is.

Familiar.

Because healing isn’t just about pain.

It’s about what starts to feel like home
even when it hurts you.

You don’t chase red flags.

You recognize them.

And recognition feels like understanding.

And understanding
for a moment
feels like connection.

So when they speak in ways
that almost make sense,

when they love you
in a way that feels incomplete
but strangely comfortable

you don’t question it.

You settle into it.

Not because it’s right.

But because it’s known.

There’s a version of you
that learned love like this.

Unstable.
Uncertain.
Conditional.

The kind that makes you earn it
without ever saying so.

And even if you’ve outgrown it consciously—

your instincts haven’t.

So you meet someone new.

They’re different, you tell yourself.

And maybe they are.

But not in the ways that matter.

Because what you haven’t healed
doesn’t disappear.

It waits.

Quietly.

Until something…or someone…
feels close enough
to what you’ve survived.

And then it speaks.

Not in words
but in comfort.

You confuse anxiety for chemistry.

Distance for depth.

Inconsistency for mystery.

And suddenly you’re invested again.

Not in them

but in the feeling
you’ve been trying to rewrite.

Because that’s what this really is.

Not love.

Not even attraction.

Repetition.

You’re not choosing them.

You’re choosing another chance
to fix what once broke you.

Another chance
to be understood this time.

Chosen this time.

Stayed for this time.

But healing doesn’t happen
through other people.

And closure doesn’t come
from someone who reminds you
of what hurt you.

It comes from recognition.

The kind that doesn’t feel good.

The kind that interrupts the pattern
before it becomes a story again.

Because the truth is…

you don’t attract what you want.

You attract what your unhealed parts
still make space for.

And until you change that space,

you’ll keep meeting people
who fit perfectly
into wounds
you swear are closed.

So no

it’s not just them.

And it’s not just timing.

It’s the version of you
that still believes
this is what love feels like.

And maybe the hardest part of healing
isn’t letting people go.

It’s admitting
why they felt right
in the first place.
