Inspiration for this weekend 🌟
🗺️ Explore
Aarø ⛴️ 🌊
Aarø is located in the South of Jutland. It’s reachable by a 7-minute ferry ride from Årøsund. Your ferry ticket includes a return as well. Once you step onto the island, everything shifts into a lower gear.
We visited on a windy day (typical for the coast!), but it only added to the charm. You can easily walk or bike the whole island or rent an electric golf cart. We did a lovely hike along the red route, which gave us a little bit of everything: beach views, open fields, and a good time together.
Aarø is also home to a bird sanctuary (with limited access in spring/summer for nesting season). The island has some great spots to camp or shelter overnight. If you’re going with kids, there’s a nice outdoor playground. Our son loved it! The island is flat and perfect for families, even with strollers or little legs on bikes.
Don’t forget to check small farm shops selling local honey, eggs, crafts, and baked goods.
Aarø felt calm, cozy, and kind of magical. This is where the Danish expression “at sænke skuldrene” (to lower your shoulders) comes to life.

🍽️ Recipe of the week
Danish Apple Trifle (Æblekage) 🍏
Keeping the theme of Danish simplicity, this week’s recipe is Æblekage. A simple, nostalgic dish. It’s a dessert with stewed apples, whipped cream, and crispy crumbs. Sweet, tart, and creamy… basically Danish hygge in a bowl. 🇩🇰
Hope your weekend brings a little adventure and a lot of hygge. 💛
