☀️ Good Morning:

Admit that you thought it.

An early five-run lead, the type that comes a little too early, and Atlanta starts chipping away, because that’s what Atlanta does, finds unique ways to break the Mets hearts, while the Mets do what the Mets do, invent creative ways to lift fans spirits before sinking them deeper.

You thought it.

What better way to ruin this fun little streak than blowing a five-run lead?

Whom better to deliver the final nail in the coffin than Kodai Senga, the new closer?!

You thought it, but it didn’t happen.

The Mets tacked on some runs. Senga looked the part.

Another win.

Six out of seven.

32–10 for a playoff spot.

Any record, with players proving why they belong as part of the 2027 solution, or beyond.

We finally have something worth watching. And thank the good lord because we are still one month away from real football. I spent my morning commute listening to Bill Simmons talk about whether hotels should offer guests rental dogs.

We need the Mets to carry us through August. It didn’t seem possible a short week ago. Maybe there’s a little juice here. If anything, at least we have transitioned from utter confusion to smiles.

🗓️ UP NEXT: Can they keep the winning vibes going? Nolan McLean (8–7, 3.51) will try against southpaw Martín Pérez (7–6, 3.14).

📰 ABOVE THE FOLD

While fans revel in seeing Edwin Díaz struggle in La La Land, the man whose signing effectively marked the end of Sugar’s career in Queens didn’t exactly prove he was much better.
