Giulia C. · The Inside Pocket

Welcome back to On My Mind, In My Shopping Bag!, the Inside Pocket series where I round up what I’ve bought, what’s still sitting patiently on my wishlist, and all the bits and pieces I genuinely think are worth your time (and money).

I love a piece that can be worn in many different ways, going from the centrepiece of a look to a simple accessory, and silk scarves are exactly that for me. Around the waist, the neck, over my head, or thrown over my shoulders.

My most-used one is actually a green Nanushka top that I’ve repurposed as a waist scarf, which I’m sure you’ve seen countless times across my spring-summer outfits. A new entry is another Nanushka one, this time much bigger, so it can double as a top or even a skirt. I’ll prepare a whole article on how to style it, but so far I’ve worn it over a simple black tank top and ecru trousers, or draped over my most basic black dress. Another one currently on my wishlist is this clock one below, mainly because of its lovely print.

What are the little whimsical things you do to add a bit of magic to the mundane? I recently read an article asking women this exact question. One asks the garlic, “May I take your coat, sir?” while peeling it, another draws her blush in little hearts, and someone else adds a gift message to herself whenever she shops online. I realised I don’t really have anything like that, but I love the idea of small, completely unnecessary things that make an ordinary day a little lighter. Maybe mine doesn’t need to be a ritual. Which is why I think I need these tiny spoon earrings.

There’s no fabric I love more than silk. This top has been sitting on my wishlist since forever. Very simple to style and pair both in the day and the evening which makes it a pretty good buy.

Tavares 1922 has an entire tableware collection dedicated to shells. Imagine serving stracciatella ice cream in one of these beauties at your next dinner party?

Countless are the days in which my thong has tried to vertically cut me in two. I’ve always chosen natural fibres for my underwear, but laziness and a preference for spending my money on fancier things meant I often got the cut or size of my briefs completely wrong. I tried Underdays and felt like an idiot. All this time, and good underwear that is not actually hideous existed. They are cute, REALLY comfortable, and they do not rearrange the architecture of my bum at every step. Bonus point: Underdays briefs are made from soft TENCEL™ Modal with probiotic technology designed to support the skin’s microbiome. I love them.

I am not a lipstick girl, so when Dries Van Noten launched its lipstick collection, complete with those jewel-like, refillable cases, I really couldn’t justify the purchase. I am finding hard not to buy the lip balm refillable case though...

The sunglasses that did the job for me this summer are this pair and this pair. But thanks to my pathetic prescription, vision glasses are now joining the equation, and I’m surprisingly excited about it. I love how much a pair can change a look, although optical frames are far less forgiving and really need to be tried on. I keep coming back to 80s aviator shapes in tobacco brown and gold, the kind that will match perfectly my oversized blazers, leather boots and gold jewellery. Think old Gianfranco Ferré and Alberta Ferretti: excessive proportions that made Italian fashion in the 80s feel so decadent and to this day still so exciting. At least to me!

Hope you enjoyed xx
