The Art of Rest · The Art of Rest

Welcome back to the Sweet Darkness my friends. We took last month off to be in the moments that arose. To laugh with our friends, run frantically from one summer plan to the next, to feel the temperatures of our core drop every time we jumped in a body of water.

I don’t know about you, but although I’ve enjoyed my summer thoroughly, it was quite dense and full. As August rolls around, I am feeling it.

Now, my friends, it is August, and our word at The Art of Rest for this month is compassion.

When I was guiding full-time, we used to jokingly call this month “Angry August” because we were all a little bit crispy from the summer sun, throngs of people, and the volume of manual labor we all held collectively.

Even though I’m not guiding full time, I’m still feeling a little crispy as August rolls around and I thought softening into that with some compassion might be just the ticket.

This guided meditation is meant to be a sitting practice. Grab a cold drink of water, dip a sarong or some other lightweight fabric in water and ring it out really well, drape it over your shoulders for a cooling effect, and settle in with me this morning.

Let’s cool off.
