In this episode, I was thrilled to meet Peter Berry, who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2014. He was just 50. From being a successful business owner, he found himself unable to work, and life changed completely.

He chatted to me alongside author Deb Bunt, who worked with him on a book called Slow Puncture, which has been adopted by dementia charities and organisations as an inspirational story to support those coming to terms with a diagnosis like Peter’s.

Sharing an enthusiasm for cycling (hence the title of the book), Peter and Deb discuss how they met, how the book evolved, and Peter’s determination to raise awareness, especially among younger people. Peter is incredibly positive, and although we have to talk about his initial depression and coming to terms with his condition, his story is an upbeat one, and he and Deb are a great team.

A second book, entitled Patching the Puncture, will be published in February 2026 and is available for pre-order from The Book Guild HERE.

You can find out more about Peter from his website at www.peter-berry.com.
