Well, first of all, my sincere apologies for the significant gap between this and the last newsletter. There are no excuses, other than I was freezing cold sitting proofreading in the shop and no one seemed to be interested in the last post, so I sulked. And, in addition, we were busy working and planning the new layout of the shop - more to come on that shortly!
I’ve been having a think about what we can share that will interest you, and I know that bookshop posts, rather than my own inane witterings, are what get you reading. So, I thought, how about I change the title of the Substack to something more bookshop-focused? There are lots of well-established bookshop Substackers out there, but that means it’s a good idea, surely? I have quite a few followers now, and as we now have next-generation Grogan, Hannah, working with us and preparing blog posts (she is a very talented recent Eng. Lit. graduate), it seems the right time.
What do you think? Any ideas for a new name? I’m thinking ‘Stories from a Secondhand bookshop’ or ‘Tales from a Suffolk Bookshop’, but I am prepared to go more creative if anyone can think of a title that will draw people in. I’m getting over a bout of shingles, so my brain is even more mushy than normal.) Please do comment below (on the name, not the shingles.)
And would you cancel your subscription? We haven’t lost many subscribers whilst I have maintained radio silence, so hopefully you’d give us a chance? Hannah has a wonderful one about pondering the Bechdel Test in the bookshop. If you understand how the test works in film, when you apply it to fiction, you’ll never read a book in the same way again!
So if you want to read literary chat, book reviews and news and tales from a secondhand bookshop, follow us. We won’t sulk this time.
