Hi friends,

Hope you had a nice weekend, we took it easy this weekend, as we have a whole bunch of things planned for June and needed some rest. Gardening, and cocktails at home.

My current hyper-fixation cocktail is a 50/50 martini with our Fire Island Dry Gin, Forthave Yellow, celery bitters and a couple of drops of saline. It’s so light and bright and way too easy to drink.

Lots to explore in this week’s letter. Let’s get to it!

Have a great week!

-Tom

A Pop-Up Called Pancakes
Every Friday through Sunday in May, Izzy Tulloch and Danielle De Block (formerly of Milady's) transform Flatiron’s historic S&P Luncheonette into an after-hours cocktail bar. Expect diner-punk lighting, Taylor ham-infused Manhattans, and a syrup dispenser full of Gibsons. This one’s for the bar nerds.

Four Twenty Five: Two Takes
The New York Times says it's seductive and generous. Feed Me says it's flavor overkill. We say: sounds like a good place to visit and make up your own damn mind.

New Burger Heatmap
Eater just dropped their new burger ranking, and yes, some of our faves made the cut. Early bets say Midtown newcomer Torrisi's Burger could be a sleeper hit.

Sometimes all you need is a perfect burger and a Negroni. Red Hook Tavern nails both — plus steak tartare, Caesar salad, and cozy, lived-in vibes that feel like they’ve always been there. Walk in on a weekday or book ahead on the weekends, it’s a classic for good reason. More Info

Baby Bistro (Chinatown)
A permanent home for Miles Thompson & Andy Schwartz's roving pop-up. Tofu, bass, pine nut cookies, a $50 wine pairing. So good we’re giving it another shout out. Go now before everyone else does.

Best Hotel Restaurants in LA
Eater LA rounded up the hotel restaurants that are actually worth eating at. Some of our favorites include:

  • The Barish at the Roosevelt

  • Caldo Verde at the Proper Hotel (stayed here last Nov and can confirm, it has excellent food, especially brunch.)

  • The Terrace at the Maybourne
    Full List

A bright, moody, refreshing mess — just like your favorite Gemini.

  • 1 oz Fire Island Gin

  • 1 oz Lillet Blanc

  • 0.5 oz lemon juice

  • 0.5 oz basil simple syrup

  • Top with sparkling water

  • Garnish with fresh basil + lemon wheel

Serve over ice in a wine glass. Pairs best with duality.

  • "Missing U" by Robyn — still the best post-party comedown.

  • "Spacer Woman" by Charlie — Italo disco for your rooftop pregame.

Every restaurant that uses over-seasoning to hide bad technique.
The over-spiced everything at Four Twenty Five sparked a larger debate: is your food actually good or are you just screaming salt in six languages?
