Hi friends,
We visited La Mercerie in SOHO yesterday and enjoyed Fire Island Dry Gin poured over oysters. It was a first for me and my dinner guest. I must say the kelp in our gin ups the ocean umami-ness of the oysters. It’s a wonderful combo.
We also stopped by Schmuck. Amazing martinis. They even replace your martini’s glass with a fresh icy cold one halfway through. Spectacular!
If you’d like to try our gin, we are offering FREE SHIPPING on orders over $100.
We also did tastings at Gowanus Wine Studio and Waterbury Wines and Spirits. It’s been fun hearing feedback on the gin!
Ok, now on with the newsletter. Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday, wherever you are.
As always, my inbox is open.
x Tom

Takeaways from Punch's Best New Bartenders tour:
Train your staff to take your job. Then you can move up.
Stop staging fake-sustainable cocktails with banana peels no one asked for.
Don’t compare yourself to anyone. Your weirdness might be your edge.
Curate waste. Let it guide the menu.
Bartending is a real career. Treat it like one.
It’s underground. It’s iconic. And it’s still one of the best solo dining moves in the city. Hidden inside the bowels of Grand Central, this massive seafood hall is great for a martini and a dozen briny oysters at the bar. Or, if you know, you know: sneak into the windowless saloon in the back. It’s pure New York.

This week’s Dummy of the Week goes to... whoever decided a $30 salad bar at Citarella in the West Village was a good idea. You read that right: thirty. American. Dollars. For a scoop of couscous and some limp arugula. There’s aspirational pricing, and then there’s losing your damn mind.
