Hey Everyone,

That’s Friday the 13th two months in a row! Is that a thing? Honestly, I’m too lazy to look up how often that happens. As an adult, I’m always caught up in life and hardly ever realize/register when these freaky Fridays drop - full disclosure, I completely missed it last month.

These days I’m running a kickstarter (we’ll get to that), and doing a lot of writing. It’s kind of a frustrating time for a lot of reasons as it feels like a lot of avenues are closing up or not what they used to be, but still I carry on.

Right now I’m working on a couple of projects that I’m pretty excited about. Project A started as an idea for Project B, then went into a totally separate direction, hence the split in projects. Both are horror themed, which is new for me. I’m kind of known as a monster/kaiju guy because of Monster Matador and now leaning into more horror, which is a ton of fun. All of which is ironic because as writer I’ve always leaned towards writing comedies and satire.

Project B seems to be the one pulling ahead. My goal with this one is to take it out and pitch it and see if I can get any bites, hard as it is in today’s publishing environment. The pitch is for a 5 issue mini-series, but if that fails I also have a “crowdfunding” version that would be a 56 page one-shot.

Why the difference?

Well, in real terms, 5 issues is basically 3 years in crowdfunding terms. It’s a huge commitment and given recent challenges, I’ve definitely gotten more conservative in my approach. Plus, things are just getting more and more expensive all around from production to printing and postage. I figure done in one’s are a bit more viable (at least for me) in this environment. Which brings me to…

MERCY: IN PRISON! I’m really proud of this one. Mick Beyers was great to collaborate with. He added so much to the story in his art. It’s an R-rated revenge fueled horror story about a girl that wants revenge on the guy who got her sent to prison with just one little complication - she’s gotta survive an Aswang that’s going on a bloodthirsty rampage.

We’re about $600 from funding and can use your support, whether it through backing or just sharing the project. I promise it’s a ton of fun and perfect for those that celebrate Friday the 13th!

And if you want to hear more about it, check out this conversation I had with Jason Bennet of Comics Bodega!

Have a great Friday the 13th!

Steve
