Hope you had a great weekend. I’m starting off the week launching MERCY: IN PRISON on Kickstarter with artist Mick Beyers and colorist Alex Zief. The 24 Page one shot, MERCY: IN PRISON journeys back to 1975 follows MERCY HANSEN, a happy-go-lucky farm girl from Wisconsin who gets sent to a Philippines prison after getting caught with a brick of China White in her travel bag. Of course, she didn't put it there. That darn English prick Richard Hawthorne III did and she wants to get out of prison to get her revenge. Only problem is that she's not the only one out for revenge... and she'll be lucky to survive!

It’s been a slow month for me as far as reading and watching things. I’m hoping to pick up the pace this month. Here’s a few that stood out.

What I’ve been watching:

Tapawingo - This was a fun throwback and felt like a late 90s/early 2ks indie film. It features Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) and is funny and a bit ridiculous. If you like films like Napoleon Dynamite or Wes Anderson you’ll enjoy this one. I watched it on Kanopy.

Bugonia - Went into this without knowing much about it. It was fantastic. Really well done. Emma Stone plays a CEO who is kidnapped by a couple of conspiracy theorists and, well, no spoilers, but check this one out. I watched it on Peacock.

Bullet in the Head - Shout Factory has been releasing the Golden Princess filmography, which are some of the best and influential films from the Golden Age of Hong Kong cinema (the 80’s and 90’s). BITH is John Woo’s opus about 4 friends who head to Vietnam to make their fortune during the war and, well, shit happens! This was originally meant to be a prequel to A Better Tomorrow but a falling out between Woo and producer Tsui Hark led to Woo making this film and Tsui making A Better Tomorrow 3. Anyway, highly recommended. I picked up the 4K blu-ray from Gruv.

What I’ve been reading:

Shaolin Cowboy: Beginning of the End Results - This one reprints the original 7 issue series from Geoff Darrow along with reprints of his Bourbon Thret strip. Was fun to revisit the original series. One of my favorites.
