Hey Everyone,

I’ve been recovering from the Mercy Kickstarter campaign (you can still grab it via late pledges HERE) and my kids’s spring break among other things that have been taking up my time. I’ve been working on a few projects as usual, but one that I’ve had to stay silent on just dropped and if you have HBO Max, go check out Hacks Season 5 episode 2 where you’ll catch a (blurry glimpse of me and Monster Matador.

Last November I, along with 9 other creators, was invited to appear as an extra on the show HACKS with my Monster Matador booth for an episode that takes place at an autograph convention. As is par for the course, a lot of footage didn’t make the final cut, but, if you squint hard enough you can see me in the background in a white Monster Matador t-shirt as Deborah Vance enters the convention and my Monster Matador booth in the background of some shots. All-in-all it was a great experience. Here are some screen shots and behind the scenes pics:

That’s me in the white Monster Matador shirt in the background.

Speaking of Monster Matador, Issue 3 of Blood of the Matador is complete and we are looking to launch in July. Once I have a pre-launch link I’ll let everyone know. Here’s a look at page 1!

Also, if you’re in the LA area and looking for something to do on Free Comic Book Day, I’ll be at Santa Monica Comics along with about a dozen other creators.

And to wrap for today, here are a few things I’ve been reading and watching:

Shakara (Rebellion/2000AD) - Hadn’t heard of this one til I saw the collection at the comic shop a few weeks ago. The cover and synopsis grabbed me so I picked it up and I was not disappointed. This was originally serialized in 2000AD and runs over 300 pages. It’s about a the last of its kind taking revenge on those that destroyed its entire species. There’s a bit more to it than that, but if you like sci-fi I highly recommend this one.

Blood of the Grinch (Fried Comics) - My nemesis Clay Adams wrote this one and I’m sorry to say it’s really good. Kind of hard having a nemesis that writes such good comics. It’s drawn by Fabio Ramacci who does a great job with this White Lotus with a horror twist story. I’m definitely interested in checking #2 which will be launching on Kickstarter soon. Clay also has a collection of Blazing Blade of Frankenstein on Kickstarter right now, a bunch of which was drawn by my Mercy collaborator Mick Meyers. So yeah, Recommended!

Pretty Lethal - Caught this one on Amazon Prime and it was fun. A solid action flick about a ballerina troupe that seeks shelter in an inn after their bus breaks down. You will likely never look at ballerinas the same again!

Have a great week,

Steve
