If time were a human

You are walking down a street that feels both familiar and strange, and beside you, Time walks too. He isn’t the mechanical thing you’ve stressed over all your life, he isn’t a ticking clock on the wall, a deadline flashing in red, or a bar graph showing how much time you have left. If Time were a human, he would be someone who has seen every version of you, yet he never looks at his watch.

He’s the companion who understands how heavy your shoulders feel after a long day of planning your future. When you stumble, he doesn’t gasp or look at you with pity. He just silently recognizes your fatigue. He has seen you worry about the “what ifs” that keep you up at night, and he has been there through the mornings when you finally choose to get up and try again, despite your doubts. He is the only one who truly grasps the weight of your personal struggles because he stood by in the quiet moments of your life, when no one else was there.

You might try to bargain with him, or perhaps you spend your energy trying to save him or get rid of him, treating him like something you can spend on productivity. But if you actually stopped to look at him- really looked- you would see a kind of weary, deep amusement in his expression. He is the ultimate giver, offering the same 24 hours to everyone, yet he seems confused about why you are running so hard. He moves at your pace, always waiting for you to realize that you don’t have to outrun him. He isn’t a master to please or an enemy to fight; he is simply the shadow that grows and shrinks as you walk your path.

There might come a moment, perhaps in the calm of a library or a park, where you finally turn to him. You might ask why he insists on moving forward when you feel stuck, overwhelmed by the life you want to create. He wouldn’t lecture you on ambition or time management. Instead, he would offer a small, knowing smile- the kind that comes from someone who has experienced every ending and every beginning. He would remind you, without speaking, that your life isn’t defined by how many tasks you finish or how much you achieve before the sun sets.

He is the partner who asks only for your presence. He wants you to stop measuring him and start living alongside him. As you walk together, you realize that the journey isn’t about reaching the finish line; it’s about how you engage in the walk itself, step by heavy step, until the journey finds its natural end.
