Karen Read case's appellate lawyer Martin Weinberg reportedly said that Lindsay Clancy made a smart decision in choosing Kevin Reddington as her defense advocate. The 75-year-old Reddington has spent decades defending popular clients like former Boston Red Sox player Mo Vaughn and Catherine Greig, the longtime companion of mob boss Whitey Bulger.
He became famous more than 35 years ago when he secured an acquittal for Massachusetts resident Therese Rogers. He argued that Rogers was insane at the time she fatally stabbed her boyfriend in the eyes while he slept. He presented to the jurors that Therese's delusions were the result of PTSD and battered woman syndrome developed after years of enduring her boyfriend's abuse.
According to USA Today, Weinberg said that Reddington's long record of handling major cases makes him the strongest advocate for Clancy. He explained this by pointing to his own background as an appellate lawyer for another high-profile defendant, Karen Read, who faced charges for killing her boyfriend John O'Keefe. She was later acquitted in 2025.
The trial has sparked strong activity on social media, where people are making TikTok and Instagram posts to support Clancy's defense.

Martin Weinberg supports Lindsay Clancy's choice of Kevin as her lawyer

Weinberg is a prominent American criminal defense lawyer from Boston, Massachusetts, who is known as one of the country's premier white-collar and appellate litigators. Today, on Lindsay Clancy's trial, he said,
"She wisely selected a lawyer that's comfortable with mental-condition defenses, is comfortable trying homicide cases, and has the experience to maximize her chances to succeed."
Weinberg meant that Lindsay made a wise decision by hiring a lawyer who knows how to handle mental-health defenses. Reddington has the ability to manage homicide cases and has enough experience to give Lindsay the best chance of winning.
The appellate lawyer further stated that selecting Reddington was similar to how a medical patient would select a surgeon for a difficult operation. He explained that in such cases, a patient would prefer a doctor who has already treated that condition before rather than one performing the procedure for the very first time.
Lindsay Clancy's attorney shows a different and unusual side when he is outside the courtroom. He is known to wear a sleeveless denim-and-leather outfit with tattoos on his arms and to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Before Clancy's trial, Kevin told NBC 10 Boston that he manages ten trials each year and has no plans to retire anytime soon.
