Welcome to Slow Brew Sunday, the newsletter that helps you start your week with a clear mind and full cup. 🍵 From intentional shifts and gentle productivity tips to personal stories and encouragement, I hope our cozy corner of the internet gives you what you need to ease into your week.

Hey Friends,

The fam and I were in the car the other day, and I randomly thought about the movie 500 Days of Summer, so we decided to put on the soundtrack. It was suuuch a throwback! Gosh, I loved that movie so much. The song “Us” by Regina Spektor came on and immediately brought back all the feels.

Naturally, it led us to start thinking about some of our favorite artists during that time. Mine were Sara Bareilles, Fiona Apple, Rufus Wainwright, and The Strokes. All of these artists remind me of that era. Even though they weren’t necessarily all peaking at the exact same moment, those were the artists you would’ve found on my playlists.

I think about Rufus Wainwright like once a year, haha. I don’t even know why it happens so consistently, but every now and then one of his songs floats back into my head (like Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk), and I remember how much I loved his music. I also don’t know many people who know who he is! Even Elton John once said Rufus is “the greatest songwriter on the planet.”

If we were hanging out IRL, I would grab my laptop right now and start playing you his songs. Then you’d play me the artists you loved, and we would be sitting here for an hour reminiscing on these core memories.

“Wait, do you remember this one?”

“Oh my gosh, I completely forgot about this song.”

Speaking of… I forgot how incredible this song is. You must listen to the whole thing.

I love how a song can come on that you haven’t heard in fifteen years, and you still know all the words. It’s like perfume, where a certain scent brings you back to a vivid memory. And sometimes it’s not even a specific memory. I just remember the feeling of being that version of myself.

It’s my favorite way to time travel.

I wonder what will come on twenty years from now and take me straight back to this era right now… mid 30s, early motherhood, working on my book, moving houses… I hope it’s something cool, but it will probably be Hop Little Bunnies if I’m being real, lol.

So now I’m curious: who were the artists on your playlists during your 500 Days of Summer era? Let’s open up these time capsules togethaaa!

Psst… I yap a lot, so if this email gets truncated in Gmail, click “view in browser” to read the entire post.

I am taking a little trip through the soundtrack of my life. 🎶

Open up your own musical time capsule! Choose an artist, album, or playlist you loved in another era of your life, press play, and see what memories come flooding back. Extra fun if you send a song to someone who was there for that chapter and make them time travel with you.

  1. Myspace making a comeback? — Thoughts?? Would you welcome Myspace back into your life or is it just another social media platform to steal our attention away? I’ll be honest… I’d probably take a peek. Who doesn’t love customizing your page?

  2. 🛒 In My Cart — Er, well it better be in my hub’s cart haha… I requested this bag for my birthday. The price is way less in Korea, but I won’t be heading there for a while, so online it is! My bday is in September, but this has been on my wishlist for months.

  3. 📺 Watching — I just finished watching Better Late Than Single S2 (on Netflix). Quite enjoyed! It’s a Korean reality show that follows a group of “eternal singles” as they navigate dating, and I was really rooting for Hyun-seo and Hyuk Joon! I’m excited to watch the reunion this weekend.

  4. 💗 It's OK to feel! This article was such a good reminder that being emotionally regulated does not mean being calm all the time. Instead of trying to never feel stressed or overwhelmed (not so realistic), it’s about creating enough space to respond intentionally instead of reacting in the heat of the moment.

  5. 🍵 Favorite cup (ever… seriously) Ippodo Tea matcha. It’s been my go-to for years (and yall know I take my matcha seriously) and I was feeling thankful for it today, haha.

Lots of big thoughts here:
