Today’s song is one of my favorites from the time this sketch depicts.

The word prompt I chose today was GUITAR.

I’ve been a music junky since i was little. Music has always been apart of me, even before I knew I loved drawing. I wanted to play music so bad when I was in elementary school. Not sure why didn’t push it more. I was so busy playing basketball and Nintendo all the time that it didn’t occur to me to want to take lessons. But man, did I pretend!

My dad had acoustic guitars around our house growing up, but no electric ones. I listened to hip hop and rock and acoustic guitars just didn’t match that vibe during my imaginary concerts I'd put on in my room. I was about 10 years old around this time and I would shut my door and you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t in the Beastie Boys or Living Colour. I recorded Cult of Personality from Casey Kacem’s Top 40 and listened to it over and over and would preform in from of my closet door where I could see my shadow just rocking out. But something was missing.

One day I had an idea. I didn’t have a real electric guitar to play with so I thought of an idea on how to make my own. I grabbed some cardboard from the garage and drew up the body and the neck of a guitar, cut them out and decorated it. But the neck was too flimsy. it didn’t feel “real.” I asked my dad for a solution and he cut me a 2x4 to match my cardboard body and I glued it on. BOOM! I had my very own electric guitar. Well, almost. My dad had one more idea. He grabbed the bottle of Elmer’s glue and squeezed out a thin line from the top of the wood to the bottom of my guitar body and then repeated that 4 more times. The glue dried and I was blown away! I had actual strings that my I could feel and pretend to play.

For the next several years, I’d shut my door and be the l lead singer and guitar player in Guns N Roses, Warrant, Winger, Aerosmith, Def Leopard, and several other bands of the time!

Imagination rules!
