Everybody has a zone of genius, something that they are naturally good at and makes them happy when they can fully own it.
The ability to live in that zone, in my opinion, is one of the keys to success (and fulfillment)
However, if you are a multipassionate, chameleon, who can learn things easily and develop skills to a level above average quickly, sometimes you forget what your zone of genius really is.
You become good at a lot of things but excel at none.
And the thing is, in my experience, this ultimately leads to suffering.
Suffering because doing too many things will burn you out.
Suffering because not succeeding over time compounds in a negative way.
And suffering because you are not really fulfilling your soul's need.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's good to try new things and experiment.
But at sometime I think you have to radically cut and focus on that one thing that you can do better than most
That thing that lights you up.
Life will become easier, much more enjoyable and success will feel more effortless.
I am going through one of those eliminations phases right now and it was necessary.
I had been trying and quietly failing at most things for over a decade and it started to eat into my emotional bankaccount.
I realized that I couldn't continue that way, nor did I want to.
All that I have ever done boils down to one thing:
I want to live in my zone of genius because that to be is the most blissful thing in the world.
So I have been reflecting, and redesigning my life so that I can start to get back to living in my zone of genius.
I need it.
My soul needs it.
And I think the world needs it.
Because I know that when I live in my zone of genius, I don't lay on the beach all day. I create.
Create things I hope inspires and motivates people.
To live in their zone of genius.
And that, I think is worth living for.
End.
