In the early hours of 1 August 2026, after covering the protests in Kyiv, Chris Sampson and I suddenly found ourselves chasing the impacts of Russian missiles across the Ukrainian capital.

One of the strikes landed roughly 1–1.5 km from where I was staying, and we were among the first on the scene.

Russia launched 27 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles during the attack. Ukraine intercepted just one.

This short clip captures what those numbers actually mean on the ground — the explosions, the aftermath, and the reality for civilians living through another night under Russian attack.

Turn the sound up, headphones recommended.
