Final Stretch

I received a Constitution Award from New American for my voting record. The New American Legislative Scorecards rate every member of Congress and State Legislatures based on their adherence to U.S. Constitutional and limited-government principles.

Beautiful week in Pierre. I took time from my busy schedule to walk around the lake.

Overwhelming support to ban the selling of cell-cultured meat for five years in South Dakota. I was a yes vote.

What we’re working on this week:

Property Tax Relief (Governor and Legislative Leaders are coordinating on a package)

• Using the 0.3% sales tax increase for owner-occupied property tax relief

• Optional county sales tax

• Assessed value cap that resets to market periodically

• Opt-out and referral reform time increase

SB 135 - Data Center Bill of Rights. I supported and spoke in favor of it. This bill does not ban Data Centers.

My bills:

HB 1280 - Increases penalties for drones operating over sensitive facilities like correctional facilities and military installations. Passed unanimously.

HB 1164 - establish the crime of fraudulent assisted reproduction and provide a penalty and civil liability therefor. Passed unanimously.

Appropriations Work Group:

I served on the school accountability group. We streamlined the current process to ensure that schools continue to be good stewards of the monies given to them by the state. This means they can’t have large cash balances without possible fines and/or limited school audits.

One more week to go. In Appropriations we continue to set the budget for each state agency and will deliver the overall budget this week.
