Tradition and Technology for a Bright Future

I’m proud to be a lifetime member of the NRA and staunch supporter of the Second Amendment. A great place to stock up on guns and ammo is this year’s Dakota Territory Gun Show in Rapid City. A portion of the proceeds from admission will go to youth hunting programs.

My husband and I enjoying together time at the gun show. I think he might break even on the fee he paid for the table.

It was an honor to be the prime sponsor of the only drone bill (House Bill 1280) to pass this legislative session.

Box Elder Chief of Police Bob Connell (standing to the right of Governor Rhoden) was instrumental in giving testimony and support for the drone bill. Tony Nishimura (not shown) from the Ellsworth Authority also fought for the bill. State senators and representatives, along with the governor, supported HB 1280.

School of Mines students are taking flight with drones. They built one in record time (about 20 minutes) at a senior military leadership seminar. One of the drone pilots from the School of Mines gave me a few lessons and hands-on experience. It was fun, but more difficult than I expected. I apologize to the senior army officer I almost hit with a drone strike.

Representative Mike Derby and I joined other legislators for a drone demonstration at the South Dakota National Guard post at Camp Rapid.

I’m with Kayla Eitreim the President and CEO of Junior Achievement of South Dakota.

I had a great experience with Junior Achievement while interacting with students at Sturgis Brown High School. This program gives students common sense ideas for budgeting in the real world.

Freshman Impact is an amazing program that I didn’t even know existed until a few weeks ago. Local schools bring freshman together for a one-day event at a nearby location (in this case Crazy Horse) to learn about the dangers of drinking and texting while driving, sex trafficking, vaping and other issues.

First responders from the local area participated by bringing in police, firefighters, medics and even the Flight for Life helicopter.

The Freshman Impact program had a very realistic demonstration of the dangers of distracted driving.

It’s campaign season once again. I’m putting up signs and knocking on doors. I hope I have a chance to connect and listen to your feedback.
