On 22nd July 2026, the Decentring Heteronormativity: Theorising Lesbian Erotic Life Symposium took place online, hosted jointly by the Centre for Intimate and Sexual Citizenship at the University of Essex, and the Journal of Lesbian Studies. Being interested in research as well as whatever is currently being said within academic circles about lesbians, I attended the symposium.
We started Scottish Lesbians four years ago today, and now seems like a good time to reflect on where we started, where we are now and some thoughts about what might happen next.

The Worst Day of My Life

The recent, unanimous UK Supreme Court ruling, that ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010 means biological sex, was a momentous one for lesbians.

I was privileged to be in the Supreme Court on Wednesday as the ruling was handed down in the For Women Scotland case.
