As a friend (from the Yukon) once said of me, I am a fair-weather Canadian. Growing up on the west coast, snow and cold were something I romanticised. I woke up every Christmas morning and quickly pulled open my bedroom curtain to discover the lawn was still green. The sky still drizzled. On the rare occasion it dips below zero where we live in southwest Scotland, my neighbours say to me, “Aye but you’ll be used to the cold.” I assure them I am not. I am accustomed to life in a wet nap (as one of my bandmates once described Vancouver), which is why I have lasted 6 years in possibly the wettest place on Earth.
So why tour Canada in January/February? Great question. Mostly because they asked me to and I wasn’t busy. But honestly, this tour is a beaut. I’ll be playing with some of my favourite west coast musicians including Mark Killianski, David “Woody” Woodman, Pharis and Jason Romero, The Bentalls, Marin Patenaude, Aline Jones and more.
Lads, lasses and lovers all, I present to you my tour.
