I try to keep these things brief and entertaining, to earn a coveted spot in your inbox. I’m not going to make this relevant to current affairs. You know what’s happening. I believe part of the social role of the artist is to divert attention from everyday life. So let me tell you about my everyday…

It was early January 2026 and I was broke. Without a second thought, I posted on social media that if 10 people signed up, I would start a choir. A honky tonk choir to be exact. In Scotland, the curiosity (“what is HONKY TONK?!”) must have gotten the better of them because I ended up with over 40 responses. Now Moniaive has its own Honky Tonk Choir, singing bluegrass, early country and old time music in three part harmony. Their first show is at the Moniaive Folk Festival May 8-10, 2026.

Last week took me to Denmark. I was genuinely nervous. Passing the threshold of a new country, getting a new stamp on my new passport (1st one: Danmark), always feels like unlocking a future path of possibilities. I came back with a hand-painted model fishing boat and a new hobby: decorative knot-tying (hello, ADHD!)

Besides that, my Wednesday herbal medicine clinic in Glasgow is ticking along. What a trip to show up to new faces in my consultation room. I watch as their bodies relax, stepping off the busy street in Glasgow’s West End, as they decide to trust me (or not). For the herbally curious musician (or the herbally curious, period), I created The Musician’s Herbal zine. Available as a PDF and in hard copy (when in print).
